not sure if illtyd thomas bought all the gardner 240s off morfa transport, this is one of them.

Hi daibootsy good to see some Morfa on this thread ,they had a few drivers in the Leominster area , one of them drove the Merc unit which was probably the first to be delivered to a S Wales haulier back in 1966 regards kk

Gordon Underhill and John Watkins drove for Morfa, also Peter Lloyd from Kington and Wyndham ( Kimmo ) Habberly from Llandrindod Wells.
Cheers Dave.

Hi dave,
Isn’t there a black and white picture of that bonneted merc on your thread  I seem to recall seeing that.
Regards andrew.

Yes there is Andrew,it belonged to Llanelly Steel who were from Bilston, but ran down to South Wales everyday with it and back up to the Midlands. They had a couple of Guy’s,one a Big J and the other a Warrior, all double shifted, they parked at C M Philpotts yard who I drove for,he did the servicing etc on them.

Peter Lloyd with Andrew Stokes in the specs who drove the Merc and later the Renault below.

hi dave,
thanks for the picture.i bet they didn’t sell many of them in south wales during the 60’s
regards andrew.

The bloke that owned the firm was a scrap merchant in Bilston and they hauled scrap steel down to South Wales and finished stuff back to the Midlands.I can only remember drivers from Kington working for him.I suppose it was a good changeover point.
Cheers Dave.

After driving this Merc – Clive Price was driving for Jones ( Joint Motorways ) then us in 69- Price of Llandovery hauling Cynghordy Bricks to the London area. Then in - 72 Clive started on his own with a Guy six wheeler hauling Grain as he is stil doing today with his son Russell.

Hi Hywel,
Yes I remember the driving for Evans.Peter Lloyd still drives for C W Griffiths,he’s past retirement age.Andrew Stokes gave up at Christmas,he’s70 now,but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him doing a bit of driving for someone now and again.
Clive and Russell Price have a fair fleet of artics these days. Did Clive have the six wheeler Guy off C M Philpotts,as they had one off Malcolm Richards from Rhayader.
Cheers Dave.

A Hicks artic seen out working, Daiecho143 should be able to spot where it is…

Hi dave, the Morfa merc was on a D plate DTH …D for awhile it was driven by a driver from Monkland it later crashed at Glasbury, and we think Burgoynes scrapped it .
It was probably the first Merc in S Wales, along with a similar for Pinged Hill Transport soon afterwards regards keith
