South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Hill’s didn’t trade for much longer after these 411’s were new.i think they finished in the early 90’s?

I think that they were owner drivers? In the final few years.

hi graham,
yes thank you mate.
regards andrew.

Great Hill’s of Cardiff pictures Andrew!
Fond memories of my late father taking me down to the workshop on a saturday afternoon to sit in the trucks, I think this was the cause of my obsession with HGV’s! Lol
Saw Jimmy Hill a few weeks back, I wonder what the old crew would make of the modern haulage industry:( what with Ad-blue & euro 6!!!
I think they finished around 1993 as my father went from there to Ryder Truck Rental just before they ceased trading.
Regards
Simon.

Steve is hoping to get all sorts of truck there, big and small, new and old, working and show. All are welcome just let Steve know on: 07779 987 234.
He is planning to have refreshments available plus a competition with trophies for the trucks. CCC will of course be open on the day for sales and advice.

Just a reminder the CCC radio Caerphilly truckers day is next Sunday and Dai/Steve have arranged overnight parking at a nearby pub/restaurant for anyone wanting to bring their truck over on Saturday.

H.A. Edwards were based in Pontarddulais, i think they had appox 10 trucks, i cant remember. they ran out of British Steel, Trostre, velindrer, to small tinplate works, like the one in the pic. Plate for Afon tinplate. they also had 3 or 4 sleeper cabs s.a. 400 on distance work and a b series E.R.F with tag axle, think they bought that one off Sutton Bros, Morriston. they ran coils from s.wales to Nacanco, Livingstone, Scotland… When velindrer closed W.Walter of Pontlliw took them overand the drivers. some where on contract with Dragon Shipping. I dont know the real story, but heard something about the owner of Geo Beer, was in shares with Hal edwards, think there was three involved and once edwards was up and running, the other two pulled out.that years ago when edwards started with Atkinson. one you see in pic, beer had the other one, some were ex shell tankers.
