Hello Andrew, Cliffs superb Foden is an S18, the S20, (oh love of my life), was the aluminium cab with the little curved quarter lights, then came the S21 âMicky Mouseâ, (although I am informed by âthe more learnedâ, that this was the spaceship sputnik, (funny, I only ever learned that on the computer), we who drove that abortion only knew them as Micky Mouse!!! (and my knees tell me why)!! But they did have a nice driving position! and looked quite charming!
I`m getting boring, apologies, Cliffs lorry is a beaut!! Cheerio for now.

This photo was given to me today to scan by my work colleague Peter, it features his brother Bert [on the right]who worked for Bowns at the time and was using this Transcon to collect trailers from the north.

I remember seeing that Transcon, think it was a demo model to start with. Wonder who bought her, the reg looks familiar. Probably a while before Ade1970s time. Rowly might know though!
Regards Paul
Hi Paul, thanks for the mention. Specific reg rings no bells with me sadly. I can just about remember Bownâs and seeing the odd about. In 1979 / 80 I would be walking along the A468 from around The Garth Inn Bassaleg (now the Friendly Fox) to Rhiwderin Primary School (just after the Rhiwderin Inn). This led right past Hicksâs yard, a good home for the Transcon and tilts then as but they were quite often scattered across the globe. Clive Fell parked there also and did the Middle East but havenât seen his name crop up here.
I am sure the Scarletâs fans on here will see the significance of the numbers on this man

Thanks Otto, yes I know Gary Jones but not many of the others. Gary and his family lived in the next street in Bassaleg. My father was a good mate of his and they used to be drinking partners years back and worked together at Masters in Caerphilly. In the mid 80âs Gary ran the odd tipper and had a garage in Rogerstone where we used to take our cars into. He enjoys a beer. Last saw him in Barry Thompsonâs pub in Newport another ex owner driver and Gary was at Air Products driving. A few other names: Lennie Underwood you may know of from Alte, he was a Transport Manager at RF Brookes when my Dad was driving there mid to late 80âs. Iâm married to Bobby Longâs daughter he was also running Germany as an o/d way back when for Alte and another legend that I hoped Mechanic77 might have lured onto here from John Evans / John Beynon Evans / Strider & Nolans / Walls fame was Dave Hobday. I like that fella and everyone speaks well of him. Havenât seen him for a few years now but he was always coming around to us at TIP on Cardiff docks when working between Princes and the Brazilian fruit juice boats with his mighty black G reg 113 380 black Scania of WT Smith. He loved that truck. Give him a nudge Neil!.
Iâd love to get Dave Hobday [or at least some of his stories] on here. He is a hard man to get hold of these days. Iâll keep trying though.
Neil.
A few I seen in Felin-fach near Aberaeron.
