South Circular A205

Is there a more depressing, singularly soul sapping stretch of road in the UK?

Did about a 5 mile stretch on this road today between the A20 and A23. Then had the sheer misery of a slow trudge through Streatham towards Croydon.

Luckily I don’t normally go too far in off the 25 towards London. Long may that continue.

Sod that for a route, deadful traffic, more traffic lights than you can shake a stick at, and worse of all no totty spotting.

and worse of all no totty spotting.

That would swing it for me

totally agree. glad i dont venture over there much either these days

you forgot to mention the bridges!! can’t agree about the totty spotting though, i’ve spent a lot of time on that stretch recently, and have spotted my fair share!

I hate the NCR but by comparison it is like a guided busway. The SCR is not even one through road but a mismatch of roads staggering from one ■■■■■■■■ to another in the vague direction that you need to travel in.

I once had the displeasure of having to go from Dagenham to Acton round the NCR then to somewhere in SE London just off the A205 before returning to Dagenham thus completing the whole miserable episode. The only good bit about it was coming home.

I keep getting sent this way in a tesco’s 13m which says it’s exactly the same as this bridge. The detour around it takes you over a residential street full of speed humps!

The moral of the story is DON’T have a cup of coffee sitting in the hole on the dashboard when you go this way! :frowning:

You say that… but you can often see the same man dressed in a very tight top and the shortest skirt I have ever seen on the South Circular, which is not the prettyist thing in the World but it does make you look and I have been know to give him some words of encouragement.

Then just the other Sunday at around 5.30 am I saw a man in just his swimming trunks. That was nice.

So not the best road to get anywhere quickly but sometimes the best for entertainment.

It was designed as a deterrent to stop lorries infesting south London.

I avoid that road as much as i can unless its a morning delivery, then i’ll go extra early to avoid the numpties
