Sorry for asking this

As above sorry for asking this but I have looked around and cannot seem to find an answer.

I was thinking about this the other day while on my break.

If I do 2 hours driving then take a break then do 4.5 hours driving then theorecticly (not covering 10 hour driving rules)
Would I be able to tag the other 2.5 hours onto the end of the day? Or is it a case once I have had a break then that time is lost?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Thomas

You do not lose that time. You would however need another 45 minute break to access it.

As has been said you don’t lose any of your driving time by taking breaks sooner.

This does show that the current initial DCPC isn’t working if you haven’t had basics such as this explained to you. Not your fault … The system needs looking at.

Get yourself booked on a DCPC drivers hours course and hopefully they can clear up any other queries you may have.

I must admit the tachograph rules blagged me when I started driving trucks years ago, and to be honest I would still stay I’m not 100% sure on some stuff… I try keep it as simple as possible!

My last cpc course was held by a ex squady, nice chap but he didn’t have a clue either… He was still under the impression you can have a 30 then a 15■■ It’s not working…everything I have learnt has been from other drivers and friends not the driver cpc crap.

Split driving breaks must be 15 then 30

This example is legal (would help many if examples were given)
Drive 1 hour
15 min break
drive 2 hours
30 min break
drive 3 hours
45 min break
drive 3 hours

If you have any more issues Tom, there is a man on here who can help.

In 1972 a crack driving rules expert was sent to prison by a DVSA court for advice he didn’t dispense. This man promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the UK underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as a driver of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire…

The TACHOGRAPH.

I remember my first day, had to get on the phone with my uncle to try and figure out how the ■■■■ I was meant to work the tacho  Put the card in wrong the first time too

If I hear anyone say they’re thinking of doing their HGV licence I offer them my phone number and tell them to call me if they get stuck in any way. Doing the IDCPC you learn how to load it, how to drive it (sort of) and some stuff to do with signs. Suitable to start driving a horsebox around the Cotswolds (seen some ■■■■ driving at that too. Driving all over the road at 20mph while I kept in the lines. Overtook the ■■■■ and gave him the v’s), but not suitable to start work as a HGV driver.

Can I say Thankyou to everyone who replied even eagerbeaver as that made my day. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to answer my question. Thanks again Thomas

Can I suggest googling “Transports Friend”, I am nothing to do with this website, but have found it very good for explaining the more “difficult” aspects of transport legislation

FFS rog ,my planner would do his nut if you did that (let’s not encourage the newbies ) , all I’d here about is wasting time ,the only thing he’d like is 45 mins break , does his nut when you have 50 mins ,but zb him that instructions from d/t.
