Something you don't see every day

So I’m bimbling up the M6 near Stafford this afternoon, cruise set at 85k and enjoying the passing short skirts and summer tops when in my mirror I noticed a wide load with an ■■■■■■ straddling lanes one and two and catching me up. As I’m coming off for Stone in 4 or 5 miles I decided to floor it to save holding the guy behind me. Next thing I’m on the limiter and he’s moving out into lane 3 to pass me, so I knocked it back to 85 to make it easier for him. Needn’t have bothered, he must’ve been doing well over 100k as he passed!

This is in no way whatsoever a rant as it genuinely does make me smile when a truck comes hooning past me, and makes me go all misty eyed as I remember the pre limiter days fondly. So whoever you were with the big Merc with some kind of ocean going tug on the back I say “fair play to you son, keep her lit”

I like it too when another trucks blasts past you. The other week I was going south on the M40 just before you can join the M25, I was doing 90k on the limiter and a visbeen wagon was flying down in lane 3 doing at least 70mph , made me laugh

I like the looks I get when I go over the QE2 bridge in the outside lane priceless, only when I am running light and not at 44 tonne I might add so as not to hold too many up :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Indeed, many think it is a motorway

I used to drive a Leyland Marathon donkeys years ago, that would easily do 85 (mph), was bloody scary though with them drum brakes …

The best way to do 85mph in one of them was off a big cliff…Another pile of ■■■ removed from our roads !

Sorry. I hated the one the old man had, I liked the Transcon he had in the eighties…but I was young and stupid , not like now, just plain stupid and still loving an old 86 F12 twin drive.

They were scary indeed, I drove a transcon with an eaton ts in it, I thought they were way ahead of their time back then. The other one I had was Scania 111, it used to eat front tyres for breakfast for some reason and I never ever cured it, no matter what the make it would use them in no time. Ah the good … (is that right?) old days.

I was n/b on the M1 last Saturday morning heading home with an empty D/D when just north of J23 on one of those downgrades where even with an empty truck I have to control the speed, when an F12 with a flat trailer hauling concrete blocks came past me,must have been doing 70!
I was sure he’d lost it,but within a mile or so,he was out of site.

Was it white with no writing on and a big air dam on the top and as old as the hills .
With a heap of ratchet strap hanging on a rail across above the suzies?

If so that old girl will do 85.

:unamused: Think of the children :smiling_imp:
