Half a brake disc comes off on the road, there also seems to be other debris coming from the top of the trailer before the “Brake Disc” hits the car

Good but of journalist dramatisation…“if I hadn’t of ducked it would of hit my neck”,clearly no it wouldn’t have given that it’s embedded into the windscreen at the bottom .
He’s probably ducked so he could get it in the neck, obviously nothing there from that point up.
Why would you carry on at speed behind a vehicle that was flinging bits off prior to this actual impact?
Any normal person would be backing right off!

My thoughts too, but then I suppose he was trying to get the registration number.
It’s said that the vehicle could not be traced. What a load of ■■■■■■■■, it would have been on dozens of Police motorway cameras.

Didn’t the driver stop? He pulls up to a truck at the end of the video.
EDIT:- No he didn’t, he “Couldn’t be traced”. I guarantee I would have caught up with him if that was me.

Because he wanted to catch it on his dash cam
It certainly is a flyer - I was a bit dubious to the 65 mph as he doe not appear to be gaining on the truck, so I slowed the vid down to take a look frame by frame. In the first 10 seconds the car covers 33 white lines, they will more than likely be very accurately centred at 9 metres which will give a distance of 297 metres which would indicate a speed of 68.6mph, and he does not appear to be gaining much on the truck.
also, is that not a drum that has disintegrated ?
had the same thing on the A1 north a few years ago, following a tipper and the driver failed to check his wheels before leaving a site,so I am driving an 18 tonner behind him when I noticed something flying through the air I followed it until BANG,a nice big rock straight into my windscreen passenger side,it absolutely mullered the windscreen, crapped the life out of me,i managed to stop said tipper driver only for him to deny it,i pointed out it came from between his wheels,he only admitted it when I went to call the police,[I didn’t]I would not like that experience again
It’s not the Heverin trailer that lost a wheel is it
Anyway, it’s not part of a brake disc, it’s part of a brake drum.

I wonder how long it’ll be till they find its missing on an inspection…

If it’s an eastern European truck, probably some time in 2018.
That hasnt been inspected for a long long time, major heat cracks and worn so thin theres very little left of it. Most likely the shoes will have been way past the rivets and the friction material worn away to the steel backing plate for this sort of thing to happen…
