Something nice for a change!

Well I made a post a bit back about movember and unfortunately didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped although to be honest it was more for the donating a little money than actually growing the moustache (That and I couldn’t be arsed shaving every so often so I stuck with the winter beard ), Anyway I did also mention that I was raising money for Saint Leonards Hospice in York as this was the final ‘stop’ for my God Dad and the last time I saw him he was kind enough to give me and the parents a tour around to show the kind of things Saint Leonards do. I was quite surprised of some of the stuff they did with the Wii sports for the patients and arts and crafts to keep people entertained. at the last of the tour of the hospice he gave both my Dad a little collection box where my Dad handed it to me as with me working in Selby it maybe get more ‘attention’ to where my God Dad said ‘Take that into work and get yourself certified like, every little bit helps’

Now to describe my God Dad, a truck driver by profession who loved his job and loved driving in general. Never complained about anything and would do anything for anyone with me finding out that he also liked to help out with charity events at the Red Lion in ambleton, and would always be the first in helping set up and the last out cleaning up. And anyone who knew him, would tell you he made an impact everywhere he went.

I decided that seeing as I hadn’t a clue how to raise money, id do it the old fashioned way and work for it. I decided to use this busy time of the year to my advantage and get some overtime in at work. And for three extra 12 hour shifts ontop of my 4 on I decided all the overtime I did for that week (Me being an apprentice thats around £250 before tax…) but for a few reasons I tried to keep quiet about doing it one being I want it to be a surprise for my Aunt as it’s something I know she’d of liked to see but something that will leave a little stamp on St Leonards that would have my God Dad remembered for a long time, but to be honest I just didn’t want to draw attention to myself or anyone feeling bad on my account or treating me any different. Anyway for the overtime I did that week, I had to scrimp and scrape to bloody get it!

First day asking if I was in to be told ‘No you’re not’ but further on when asked if I could use the scanners on click and collect with me saying I hadn’t been taught, first words from the same line manager who said I wasn’t in ‘Come in Tomorrow on Goods in I’ll look after you Jon!’ so that was my 2 days covered.

Second day asking if I could be in I was told to ‘have a rest’ and not ‘burn’ myself out. But then I opened my mouth saying ’ I was hoping I’d be in tomorrow because all of the overtime I’m doing this week is for St Leanords Hospice in York’ where I was taken to the office :open_mouth: Where the line manager asked the shift manager if he knew why I was in this week for overtime and that I had asked to come in tomorrow. He said everyone who was brought in on the second day would be in on the third…so this was when I decided to see if the company could help and well.

Third day, after lunch time I took the collection box my God Dad gave me, and I asked the line manager who I needed to give it to to put it on the main reception desk. I was told to take it to HR and see what they could do, so I told them the score why I was in for overtime and that I was wondering if they would like to help me raise a little money for Christmas. I was told that they wanted to raise money for St Leonard’s anyway but because I said I’d of liked to write an article in the company news letter in return for their help I would be put in charge of writing the article for why I was raising money and if people saw that an apprentice was doing overtime to donate to charity that they could be more likely to donate. Anyway last night before the start of another 3 days of overtime ( I need christmas money too! Expensive time of the year  ) I decided to write the article which I will copy into this post (if you haven’t already got bored of reading this  ) and I would use my writing/photography talents to come up with an idea. Of which is anyone I’d like to donate £1 - £2 (anything more to me is a bonus) but for anyone who would like a copy of one of the pictures I took last year of the Coca Cola truck in Leeds it would be £5 so a little more money but you get a little ‘goodie’ at the end of it!

Anyway I’ll probably bored you all to tears by now so I’ll end this with the article which I was given the good news that it’s good enough for publishing and the images are spot on too so I’ll let you all be the judge

Cheers

St Leonard’s York Fund Raiser
Firstly I’ll introduce myself, I’m one of the three apprentices that started at Clipper in late January and for those who don’t know I had no previous experience warehousing experience so I’m still a little new to this industry and every day is a learning curve. I normally work on the Tesco A shift but as many have seen I’ve been all over the warehouse for the past month or so gaining valuable experience in all areas (Jack of all trades you could say!) but a very enjoyable experience!

But unfortunately with every good comes a bit of bad, and sadly the end of last month I lost my God father whom was a very loved person, both by family and friends and hit us all very hard. A truck driver by choice he loved his job and would go out of his way to help everyone who needed it with his presence being remembered everywhere he went, the final weeks of my God Fathers’ life was spent in St Leonard’s Hospice in York where he received excellent treatment from both staff and other patients. I was lucky enough to get toured around St Leonard’s Hospice in York by my God Dad where I learned they donate clothes, make make your own jewelry and also involve patients with arts and crafts and even a bit of Wii Sports to keep everyone smiling and laughing.
On the last leg of the tour my God Dad passed me a little collection box for loose change, saying ‘Get that into work and get yourself certified’ well sadly I never got the chance to bring the collection box in before he passed away so he couldn’t see what money could be raised. So as a gift to both him and my Aunt, I decided I would use this busy time of the year to my advantage and do three days overtime (9 while 9!) to raise money for St Leonard’s hospice; I also brought the collection box in asking if the company would help me raise some money. In return for their help I said I would write an article explaining why I’m doing what I’m doing.

So what I’m asking is anyone who has a spare £1 or £2 if they could donate it to the collection box (Anything more is a bonus in my opinion!) Also as my profession is automotive photographer I have some photographs of the Coca Cola Truck that I took last year in Leeds anybody who would like a copy I am willing to sell copies of these for £5 each, all of which will go to St Leonards Hospice.

Thanks
