Something always comes up!

Been browsing this forum for a few years now but only recently registered. Thought it would be worth sharing my experiences/advice for any new drivers losing faith in ever finding work.

I sat my Class 2 over 2 years ago when I worked for a recovery company with the view of progressing onto class 1 work in the future. After a fallout with the boss there I left after finding a job doing laundry deliveries and pickups. Back breaking work and I only lasted 5 months before It was taking its toll on my back.

I sat my Class 1 test while I was still working there and after passing went back do doing recoveries. This meant I was working 4 on, 4 off and so left me free to do a couple of days agency work a week. While I was doing this I applied for over 40 Class 1 jobs with no joy but always made a point of following up, popping in to see why I hadn’t been succesful.

After a year of doing the above I heard of one of my ‘first choice’ companies that I had originally given a CV were talking of taking on a driver. After phoning the boss/owner every week for the last 2 months I’ve been given a full time start and start on Monday. This company is a family run business with spotless trucks and a very good reputation, I would’ve been happy working here in 10 years never mind as my first full time start.

Moral of the story dont give up and if theres a glimmer of a job you want do everything you can to get it. I was on first name terms with the owner and he always expected my call by the time he gave in.

Good luck folks!

love the fact you were on first term names with the owner , good on ya , you wore him down and have got what you wanted , a lesson there for people perserverence pays never give up and hold onto your dreams
way t go fella
