Someone's got a big claim coming!

m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-20168102

This happened Tuesday night and its still closed eastbound. Thought I’d put it as a warning for anyone heading to immingham or Grimsby.

Ouch! What hit it? Must have been something fairly chunky!

Maybe something like those wind turbine blades sliced it eh !!

A fella at work said it was a digger that hit it, it was on the back of a low loader, but the driver hadn’t put the bucket arm down properly.

Ps I’m not sure if its called bucket arm, but it’s the bit that swings about

Surely he’ll lose his license for that?

i would think his licence is the least of his problems i’d be suprised if his head is still on top of his neck :open_mouth:

Its either the Jib or Dipper  he’s made a good job of that, did the the machine stay on the low loader?

As the old national lottery slogan went…

IT COULD BE YOU!!!.. One day! :imp:

We’re all ‘perfect’ on here, aren’t we?.. :unamused:

The Highways Agency said: “An emergency inspection last night and two further detailed inspections today have concluded that the damage is so extensive that the section of the bridge over the eastbound carriageway will need to be demolished.”

That’ll will be a big bill for sure!

The boom or dipper. On a 360 excavator (old timers may call it a Hymac after the ancient defunct digger maker) the boom is the up and down part that comes out of the main machine beside the cab.The dipper arm is the bit that draws the bucket in toward the digger and pushes it back out. The bucket is tipped and crowded by the bucket ram. CatD4C will no doubt be more upto the correct description than me.
Station Bridge in Broadway was well known for digger and low loader combos hitting it, pre the bypass.

Plenty of crushed concrete available from next week!
One less digger to feed the crusher though.

That happened to one of the A12 Hatfield Peverel bridges two years ago…can’t remember if that was a digger arm or a HIAB arm that damaged the bridge bearing.

Needless to say it still has not been repaired and has been one lane traffic ever since. Supposedly the insurance company won’t pay up and the HA can’t afford to repair it :open_mouth:

One way bridge with temporary traffic lights, hope they got a good deal on them traffic lights…If not they could have started to save for the repair instead by now!

Thanks, your name for it sounds a lot more likely.

Fella at work said the digger was on the side of the road, so I assume it came off the trailer. Was one car caught up in the incident as well, got hit by debris I think

The insurance company when insuring are legally obliged to cover Third Parties person’s properties etc … they might be disputing but there is no way an Insurance comapny can not pay for the damage as they are liable … if the amount on the insurance does not cover it then the insurance will pay out the agreed liability amouint agreed with the insured then the HA can sue for the other 200 million lol

The driver is suspended apparently and it was a hewdens low loader

So which bit is the back-acter/back-hoe then?
I saw that picture and the first thought I had was Hiab or Hook Loader.
