Wife’s just spotted this…

Could it be because of someone’s fridge being turned off, and either they’ve not noticed or not said owt…■■?

I reckon…
The fault lies with their own supply chains. I do fresh poultry into all of those supermarkets and if your temperature isn’t right, they don’t hesitate to send it all back.
Not saying that it was the reason here BUT…this is why you should NEVER, EVER switch off a running fridge, people have died because of rotten poultry
Seems to have affected too many retailers to have been caused by one fridge trailer being turned off. It’s either been handled incorrectly further back in the supply chain, or supermarkets have had insufficient room for them in the fridges so they’ve been kept round the back next to the bins for a week or two.

Was just making a point Harry
Just wondered when the customers bought these and did they store them in freezer or fridge? Not everyone is as clued up as they should be, some cases of food poisoning are down to faulty domestic storage/hygiene.
Looking at the Packager Codes one relates to a plant in Derbyshire and the other in Northern Ireland.
I seem to recall this happened before not so long ago.
I suspect FOWL play Ho Ho Ho
Tis a serious cause for concern though.
It’s nothing to get your feathers ruffled about
It is serious cause for concern when food like this ends up in the supply chain, but to take to social media and claim it ruined your Christmas I think misses what the day should be about, family and friends.
If it happened where I was going to I’d be far happier if they just said turkeys off, got some bacon and sausages instead and forgot about it for the time being and got on with enjoying the day, than the whole day collapsing and people all miserable because they couldn’t produce what has been sold to them as the perfect Christmas.

Yep , I would have gone in my freezer and pulled out either a leg o lamb , joint of pork or beef even one of the chicken I got cheap in coop Sunday

Biggest problem with poultry, those birds have been frozen, blast freezer, then put into the normal freezer, they have then part thawed, been re-frozen, then on being thawed out,and sold as chilled/fresh gone off. Supermarket QC isn’t as good as some, think, 1st or second pallet might get probed, normal reason for rejection is damaged pallets, or they say temperature, after you’ve been on bay for 2hrs with doors open,(meaning we’ve got no room take it away) then it’s left in the trailer, put on constant at -30 till it’s taken back two days later. When as if by magic it’s unloaded.
I was told a few years ago, and I do not know if it is true, but some of the deep frozen Turkeys you see in supermarkets could have been frozen years ago, he, and I am sorry I cannot remember who or where, said other deep frozen food was also kept for years and sold.
I’ve had stuff refused for temperature then the same load has been sent back next day and accepted.
Also at a cold store saw pallets of frozen fish with a best before date of 8 years ago… claimed they were going to throw it out, hope they did
We’ve bought chicken from Aldi a number of times that’s been gone off when opened. We buy the diced stuff from the fridges, making sure it’s going to be in date when we use it. Goes straight in the fridge when we get home. Then when we come to use it (still in date), open the pack and it bloody stinks. Have taken it back a few times and they’ve not really seemed that bothered. Yes they’ve let us get some more or refund us, but other than that they don’t seem bothered. If I was the store manager I’d be extremely concerned if food (especially poultry) is going off before it’s use by date. I think I’d be on to head office and getting them to investigate the suppliers and supply chain.
Fortunately for us, I tend to use the senses I was born with when it comes to food rather than simply relying on the use by and best before dates. If it doesn’t look right and/or smell right, then it ain’t right!

Very true. Turkey for Christmas is produced all year round, and blast frozen, then put into cold-storage,
There are some very, let’s say not very ethical practices within the food industry and when “shock horror” the press find out,the major players and supermarkets all blame each other, Mrs upset from Tunbridge Wells, rings jezza vine, The BBC have a frenzy, couple of suppliers get given the chop, everything is Rosie once again. Cheap food is cheap for a reason.
Wonder how long these turkeys where in the back of the car before they got home and put it in the fridge/freezer. It’s too easy to blame driver or supermarket, for their own stupidity.

Same here. Did they all sit around crying their eyes out cos the turkey was off?
Probably just economics at the end of the day…
Who wants an Xmas turkey with a ‘Use by’ date of, say, 15th Dec.
Easy enough to change the date on the packaging machine - have seen it done with a refused load I had. Took it back to supplier as was too near sell by date, unloaded it, packaging cut open and then ran thru packaging machine again with new date on, took it back next day as separate order, and there you go…
In this case I guess they just thought to hell with it, they’ll be fine.
[Zb]ing agency turkeys…
There’s a lot to be said for using a reputable local butcher rather than a supermarket when buying any meat I reckon.
And it also seems to taste better tbh.
