Scania 6x4 logger equipped with 470hp turbo compound engine. It ensures enough power on road but when you are trying to get out of forest with this same load you most likely are hoping much more power. Gross weight is around 60-63t (5% tolerance is allowed for bulk type cargo in Finland). I don’t know how you are getting wood out of forest over there but I can bet that you wouldn’t believe what kind of roads these guys are driving when fully loaded. Even I have moments of disbelief when I’m looking certain “roads” which are made especially for loggers (chains are “must have” equipment in winter).
Movere’s subbie loading around around 40t of concrete bricks. Both truck and trailer have 4 axles to prevent axle overload. Owner of this vehicle said that extra axle in rigid is nice thing in winter when you can load it and trailer to same weight. 460 hp is quite usual power rating in Finland if truck is usually running between 50t and 60t.
Globe Volvos from almost three decades. All in russian plates and two of them are still carrying liveries from previous owners (Ostseetrans and Josef Dewender). Flow of old trucks going to Russia is now stopped becouse their legislation has put enormous import taxes in trucks older than year 2000.
DAF dealer has nice shunt tug at their repair shop (obviously DAFs building quality isn’t very good
). They have also a trailer repair in same building and I waited while they changed air bag to my trailer. At meantime I admired this old Volvo and after looking inside all I could feel was respect to you who did those middle east and other long runs in these.
Nice Magnum artic with 480hp pulling a short A-frame trailer. This is really rare sight and illegal after year 2007 becouse politicians thought it to be too unstable to pull. Don’t know about that but reversing loaded A-frame with empty tractor on icy yard must be a thing to avoid. Liftable tag axle helps it little bit but must still be quite a pain.
Actros 3348 6x4. Quite strange truck as it’s chassis is overrated by 7 tonnes and it has double drive bogie. In logger or tipper these both are quite usual. One thing which came to my mind is that this truck is making self tip deliveries to construction sites in very bad places. Another possibility is that owner has remade bodywork and this has been logger earlier. Note “sand thrower” device in front of first drive axle in this truck and in same place in logger on first picture. These are used when you don’t want to came stuck at winter in first icy uphill junction.
Again one Containerships truck for Lucy 4 axle rigid and 5 axle trailer make sure that tyre costs are quite high despite truck is having three turnable and two liftable axles. Steering rear axle helps also with long trailer as this truck would have practically no rear overhang if equipped with normal tag axle (more rear overhang on truck and trailer wont need so much space when turning).
