Why is this country so far behind in so many ways?
I suppose its debatable if you class using a mode of transport that is victorian, compared to the more modern modes, who is actually “behind” who

Ah you mean the one that gives you plenty exercise and does no damage to the roads and the planet.
Another reason why UK is one of the top countries for obesity.

The more I read of your bs posts the more I think you’re just a typical raving green party supporting troll.Which is a reasonable description of the majority of the cyclist reclaim the streets supporter type tossers.
Don’t think you pair will ever agree.
From the same link they have this roundabout they where testing (luckily on private land somewhere), shown on Route Masters the other week.
There was one cyclist who went the wrong way round it, which is a pretty good statistic as 1 in 10 cyclists i would consider a danger to themselves and untrustworthy round heavy machinery.
Anyway looking at the roundabout, it should be OK for cars but for larger vehicles in order to enter the roundabout safely they will be blocking both the cycle lane and zebra crossing.
In quiet periods it shouldn’t be a problem but in busy traffic with multiple large vehicles blocking all the cycle lanes on each entry it could be quite interesting.
Will traffic exiting the roundabout also have to giveway for cyclists.
Would it be better to give motorists right of way and have a give way sign on each section of cycle lane before it crosses the main road.

The fact that it shows acres of spare pedestrian space while still putting cyclists into harms way near large vehicles says everything.Which just proves yet again that the agenda is all about removing road space from motor traffic and giving it over to cyclists thereby making the roads untenable for use by motor traffic.
different cultures, different pace of life, completely unrelated to the people over here
you may think about moving over there
The more people there are, the more diluted quality of life becomes. To improve quality of life, the natural way is to reduce the population so resources have less to go around, thereby creating extra wealth per each.
After a major disaster, or major war, around a decade is spent in “recovery” before the following generation benefit from things like “more jobs than people” and “lower taxes, from a lower benefit bill” and the like. Anything else is down to good or poor manangement.
Science and Engineering (outside civil) suffer during a prolonged peace. Art flourishes throughout prolonged political strife. Finance, however, being zero sum STILL after all these years only benefits from less drawers and more producers. Producers are not interested in more drawers, so the money is made from premature death, taxes, transaction charges, and lower pay for the masses. There’s no end in sight yet alas, but I look forward to the time when the world changes, and gets off this cycle that makes Mankind look pretty primitive indeed.
because it’s britain and it’s not the done thing for britain to do, stiff upper lip n all that.
cycling this…cycling that…whats the big deal with cycling  people talk about cycling, like it
