Hi All
Back in 2008 took the plunge to get both my class 2 & class 1 licences at great expense with a view to a changing my career but due to my commitment to my employers and the fact it had attached accommodation, it has been somewhat difficult to break free.
Maybe it was somewhat a pipe dream but then in 2010 I sustained a back injury to two of my discs, well after some treatment and told nothing wrong, go back to work…then injury / problem reared its ugly head 12 months later which effectively has but me off and out of work, the company I worked for 18 years didn’t seem interested in supporting me and cancelled my ■■■…
Currently Drs, phyisos and specialists are working to deal with the problem with my back and I am looking to either go self employed as I cant see many companies wanting to go anywhere near me…
My question is as Ive been out the loop so to say and I need to get my CPC up to date…can someone point me in the right direction and approx cost…and also as I am considering being self employed I will need as much info what I need to get an operators licence…
Becoming an operator is a very big risk. I can’t tell you half about it, but I’m sure there’s plenty on here that could.
As far as Driver CPC goes, you need to complete that by 9th September 2014. Not looked into pricing, but each is from £50 up as far as I am aware. Get it done quick though, costs are expected to rise as the deadline closes in. You’re probably looking at £250 minimum for the entire CPC.
Quote me if Im wrong but considering I passed both classes in 2008, don’t I get it under grandfather rights…
Yeh Ive just has a quick look… need to get my periodical training up to date
If i understand correctly are u thinking of going self employed as in freelance if so you dont need a olicence unless u are going down the owner driver route .as for driver cpc costs are about £80-100 per 7 hr sessions may be cheaper if u block book a 5 day course

Hi Barbaro,
I think it might be due to you having been “out of the loop,” but…
Being a self-employed driver isn’t the same as being an owner-operator, so as already mentioned, you only need an operator’s licence if you intend to own the vehicle you drive.
If you passed an LGV test in 2008 as you’ve said, then you don’t need an initial DCPC.
However, you will need to have completed 35hrs of periodic DCPC by Sept 9th 2014 in order that you can drive commercially on or after Sept 10th 2014.
The (different) CPC that’s needed in order to get an operators licence is nothing to do with the DCPC above.
Cheers Dave
Ever reliable with the right information, better get my DCPC up to date first, then concentrate on everything else afterwards.
