Some changes on the container market are coming

After the deal was singed by Poland, Russia and China, regular train connection between China and Poland was opened, first train arrived in Łódź this week.

That might be a dawn of a new era - as till now, vast majority of transport from China was organized in that way, that containers from the factories in China inland were shipped by train or trucks to the Chinese ports, then ships were carrying them to European ports such as Rotterdam or British ports and from there boxes were delivered on trucks.

The whole process takes around 45 days - by using trains, it can be shortened to less than two weeks. And since Poland has one of the most-western wide track lines (russian standard) going as far as to Katowice: lhs.com.pl/en, the new container terminal is planned at the end of this line, that would allow trains to go without the change of undercarriage at the border.

Russians, on their side, are planning to build a new wide gauge line via Slovakia to Vienna for the same reason: to create new connection between China and Europe…

So who knows, maybe soon the container boys instead of going to Folkestone to pick their boxes from the boat, will go to pick their boxes from the Polish town Łódź (that, incidentally, means “A boat”)?

great another influx of poles flooding over her bringing containers over and [zb] up a already [zb] job up even more

[zb] and [zb]  yep you said it. These Ski’s are everywhere, close the boarders and send the ■■■■■■■ back.

Of course, noone have problem with another termilan being planned in Vienna.

They may also trans-ship the boxes onto a Euro guage train and then bring them into the UK directly so it will be local delivery only from the rail head :exclamation:

No surprise that the rail freight industry can forget all about the green issue, which it uses to make the case of the fuel efficiency of trains over trucks, when it suits it,in the case of shipping freight by rail instead of by sea.

By the way I thought the Poles didn’t like the Russkis but obviously not enough to change the rail gauge so it doesn’t suit the commie zb’s wagons.

So maritime et al are going to send their drivers to pick up a box from poland are they orys? More likley they will use cheap eastern European drivers with their cheap diesel to do it direct to customer and cut out british operators all together.

If they do that would be justice against the rail freight loving Brits. :smiling_imp:

Also possible.

If British drivers go to Poland, they are allowed to buy diesel there for sure? And as for the wages, I think this is rather matter of years, by this time wages should be about the same in both countries.

By this time more like Turkish and even Mongolian drivers because by then Mongolia will be an EU member. So the train brings it’s own cheap Chinese intermodal truck drivers to drive the trucks when they run out of the right gauge rail track for the train. :bulb: :smiling_imp:

Polish wages are probably better than ours!! Ive been to kracow loads of times last year and every ■■■■ and their dog drive audis and flash motors with a high standard of living whilst most brits are living on the edge of losing their house and not being able to pay the leccy bill. Watch out poles the Lithuanians are coming tae get you :grimacing:

Why would uk hauliers send drivers to Poland if a box has a SPOD in the uk?

is the rail going to be able to compete with the price of the boat?

Since Poland regained independence in 1918 and we changed the former Russian part of it to standard gauge, we keep it at 1435mm all the time.

We have ONE wide gauge line (link provided above) allowing us to import raw metal from Soviet Union - the line goes to Katowice Steel Mill… Just as you have one European standard train line that goes into London so European size cars can enter UK.

Chilistrucker: as for your question in the Polish article they write that, the price might be competetive, but the speed of delivery also matters - for many companies it will be worth to pay more to have their stuff two weeks quicker.

A short sea ship can have a few thousand containers onboard dependant on size if they get them onto rail if… it will then not be possible to put those on trucks every few weeks or days however regular the train runs to get them to the uk! There are a lot of polish but I don’t think there is that many…

Besides which, there’s a mahoosive new container terminal being built on the Thames, that will probably change container shipping more than this rail link.

+1
and the new berth opening at Southampton end of this year beginning of next …dredged to take mega liners.

Yes, I am not saying that it will change the market upside down and take over all container freight to Europe, but for sure it is a new option.

Taffos!:

In which case the trade deficit with China will mean everyone in Britain having to give their house,or at least all the equity in it,to the Chinese government and work for a Chinese owned uk company for a bowl of rice a day to pay the debt. :unamused: :smiling_imp:

It’ll at least allow everyone to see through the bs ‘environmental’ argument which the rail freight industry uses to make the case for it’s existence.
