Some advice .

Some more advice for a newbie on which is best to take your LGV class C test in a manual or Automatic.

I’m aware that if you pass in an automatic and you passed your Car in a manual you can drive a manual LGV.

And for the DCPC do I go for module 2 & 4 or the 35 periodic training (grandfather rights)

If it’s the periodic route would it worth me going for the ADR training that will give me 28 hours then just taking another course taking it upto the 35 hours. Costs a few quid more but something else under my belt.

Thanks for any advice

Done my first test in a manual and failed through missing a gear causing traffic to stop, now during my training I didn’t have any issues with manual gears but decided to take the retest in an automatic just to protect myself from another potential mistake.

The answer to all your questions is that there isn’t a right and wrong. It’s whatever you feel comfortable with; it’s your training and test after all so no-one should tell you how to do it IMO.

Sorry if that’s a tad unhelpful; just being honest.

Do it in an Auto, leave your Bollox and testosterone at home!

Yes do an ADR, if you passed your car test before 1997. As the modules will bore you crapless if you have initiate, and can find information for yourself… ADR can pay an extra £1 an hour, so you can actually recoup the cost in comparison to doing the modules, and your job security is better than the Non ADR guy. Course details and some bollox are here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=128053

Do it in a auto.

Done my test in a manual to begin with no problems. Come test day nerves went and all I could think about was making sure it was in the right gear. Ended up failing due to not seeing someone on the right at a roundabout.
Done my 2nd test in a auto nerves went again but at least I didn’t have to think about changing gears. Ended up passing.

Consider the amount training costs so you want to make it as easy as possible unless you are really comfortable and have experience with truck gear boxes. Most Class 2 training vehicles do not have a straight 5/6 gear box. So if you don’t know how to use it a fine chunk of your training time will be spent learning how to use that gearbox.

Thanks everyone think it makes sense to take it in an automatic like most of you have said something less to worry about on the test.

and thanks for the link Evil8Beezle , am now looking for a ADR course

Got to say its a great site this.

Thanks to everyone.

Agree with Evil and Adam, I took my test in an auto just so one less thing to worry about! Re cpc I had same choice a you, but found it quicker and cheaper to do cpc2 and 4 than cost and time of 35hrs, which you still have to do another 35hrs within 5 yrs anyway!
