Buy out a company doing distribution with rigids ?
They’ve got rigids
One of their instructors bravely attempted a blind side reverse on C5 with one.
Not many would atempt something so dangerous as a blind side reverse in a rigid…

Why is it you very rarely see their rigids and mainly their artics doing 1 - 2 pallet drops
Probably why they packed the chilled in
Everytime you saw one it had about 6 pallets on.
Why do people insist on doing stupid posts on stobarts all the time?

I thought it was a question needed asking tbh, what percentage of artics/rigids do you see ?

Why does nobody think of the children these days
What will the rigids do at nights? How many trips will it need back to the depot to live load? How many backloads will it collect? Rigids are a cash sucker on 24/7 ops because they sit idle for 14hours of the day.
If a artic can get into a drop then send a artic in, rigids are useless especially in a stobart type operation.
They don’t need Rigids, they’ve got these instead…
No road tax, no other drivers, doesn’t matter if it’s sat around while the unit drags around a full size trailer.

Probally he’s tipped a rdc (24 palls)) and then he’s got a couple of pallets for a cash/carry etc or maybe
10 palls for joe blogs 1
7 palls. For. Joe blogs 2
6 palls for. Joe blogs 3
3 palls. For. Joe blogs 4
Unless your doing full shoots to one customer your at some point going to have less than a full load to deliver.

Yes i understand that, but surely wouldnt the costs for extra trailers be more than a rigid etc ?
On the plus side, would rigids not have advanced access to premises (like enclosed/restricted area’s where a artic cant get ?)

I doubt the cost of a short trailer like that is more than the cost of a complete rigid, don’t forget its basically just the body on a chassis.
Plus, you’ll actually find a small artic with a rear steer can be easier to manage than a rigid in tight places, you’ve an extra turning point to help it round.

It doesn’t upset me, I just don’t get it
So take for example the scanny and 10 metre rear steer fridge above.
So I rock up at work at 6, grab the keys to the unit off the night driver, go pick up the trailer thats been loaded over the past 2 hours.
So I’ve got loads of booze on today, so nice and heavy, its ok, got 4 axles to spread it over. Get to the store, screw the trailer round in a little over the set-ups length. Rigid would take 4/5 shunts at least at some of our drops.
Get back, have lunch, get my next job, a 13m trailer that was loaded while i was out. Go off do that job, come back give keys to night man.
Total unproductive time for unit - length of my lunch break.
How many places do you know of, that you would do pallet sized drops in, (not talking builders deliveries here) that you can’t get an artic to or near enough to?
People other than supermarkets are taking on the short trailer idea now too. McCarthys are running at least 1 ex Tesco 8m curtainsider, seen an elddis and a nobby dingledangle pulling a 10m one 2…
