This thread was only ever going to go one way.
The same as every other thread like it before
Got one run I do at weekends as cover for the main guy who’s run it is. If I wanted to be a knob I could shave 2h off it as I’m allowed in the last depot early but I don’t see the point in doing it. I’m not being rushed and he’d not appreciate a new starter getting his run permanently and tbh I don’t want it. Two days a week on that run just breaks it up for me and makes sure I max out money on weekend hourly pay rate.

As a professional limper, i don’t take offence at the OPs comments, he is a moaner and a groaner, but it might be justifiable moaning and groaning, he is what he is the same as there are good , bad and indifferent people in all walks of life, me I’m a glass half full sort, cheerful guy who wants to do a good job for my customer.
So, how many of you would have done this for your customer?
I collected two jobs/ loads, with the first load to come off on the headboard, it was for delivery to a DHL site in Wellingborough, now the second job, a single pallet of books had to be unloaded before the warehouse could get to their pallets, so i informed Lynn at goods in of this, Oh no!, We can’t take it off for you, you have to move it or we’ll refuse it, so with no pallet truck on board i asked, will you let me into your ware house to move it please?, No, can I borrow a pallet truck please?, No!, ok says i, let me see what i can sort out. I went into the yard and saw a forkie loading empty chep pallets onto a flat bed, here mate, if i get you a coffee and chocolate bar, would you take a pallet off for me and put it back on later?, no problem drive, a coffee will be fine though,so went and told Lynn, No, you can’t do that, i wont allow it, so back out i goes and asks a few drivers in the yard if i could borrow a pallet truck, none were to be found, so i reversed into an empty bay against the fence and handballed the pallet of books on to the tail lift then onto the floor and covered them with shinkwrap to protect against rain and presented myself back to Lynn, ok all sorted i said, how did you manage that then she asks, so i told her that’s the pallet was at her fence line, Oh no!, You can’t do that!, Anyway was put on a bay, got tipped, then a suited and booted gentleman came and saw me about leaving a load of books in their parking bays, i explained my predicament to him with the following line, I want my customers to get their deliveries, i want to do a good job, and what should i have done?, Well, he was speechless, I’m sorry you have been inconvenienced drive, but you can’t just go unloading goods onto the yard in future, I apologised for my disgraceful behaviour and explained that i was just an agency driver, trying to do a good job. The fact that i was being very smarmy seemed to have eluded both him and Lynn, as well as the fact that i don’t like being beaten, got the job done.
So Mr Caveman, if you ever come across a ginger, gay, fat trucker with a limp, come and say hello, and if you come in my cab, I’ll come in yer bum!

That was my point, if the Co. are ok with the time taken to do the job why make a ■■■■ of yourself to everybody else just to get a pat on the head and your belly rubbed by the boss…and lose 2 hours pay because of it.
My mate is agency, he only works nights fri, sat and sun, maxes out to get a decent block of hours, and has the rest of the week to himself, not my idea of a good job/life but each to his own.
While I agree with the agency guys who say more time at home if you do less, and complaining about long hours, that is in it’s self correct, but why go out to ■■■■ the job up for the full time guys just for the hell of it, why not do similar to what my mate mentioned does, if not and you want an early finish, extra two hours at home, go and work in a ■■■■ shop and stop playing at being a trucker.
Last bit not aimed at ALL agency guys btw, I know many who know the score, but you.always get the clever ■■■■.s, as you do with the full timers.
At the end of the day we are ALL drivers, if we are divided it can only have a negative outcome for us, and the powers that be will take full advantage of it.

Wondering where you were going with this comedy sketch.
Was waiting for
". and Lynn said no again, so I sat in the trailer and read every book then popped over the road and individually wrapped up every book in brown paper and parcel tape, then stamped up and posted each one to the customer. I wrote a compliment slip for each parcel “this is a great read, but sad ending bla bla, sorry for the missing pallet, regards Mr Very helpful”
Well there’s an offer he can’t refuse
Oh dear, here we go again with agency bashing,it’s getting kind of boring now.

Paid by the hour and this is what you get, drivers plobbing along dragging the job out when it can be done literally hours quicker, and this particular one is a perfect show case. Paid per load (employed and agency) and it wont happen, in fact it’ll be the reverse…
Hear hear!!!
I see it all the time heading up the A15 from Lincoln towards Immingham. I’ll be running short of hours and options for an overnighter and 7 out of 10 times I’ll get stuck behind an hourly paid driver trundling along at 45mph to try and get another 30 mins pay or so.
Usually results in me spending a night rocking on the side of the A180 and within 15 miles of base. Result; NO NIGHT OUT PAYMENT.

No night out payment because you`re within 15miles of base? Choices available to you include :
- Get another job.
- Ask why no payment? It should be paid, but may not be tax free if too close to base.
- Park up 25miles away somewhere sensible, get a proper rest and your night out money.
I`m sure other options are available.

Boom
Oi ! No need to bump it up. Just let it slide down the board.
I drove for a couple of company’s in the Felixstowe area for over 10 yrs. one of them was a big corporate company I hated. So IU jacked it in and drove for an agency for a year. I loved the varied work, anything from a low loader to a bin lorry. I never damaged a vehicle and had a personal motto of always leaving a cab cleaner than when I found it ( I found drivers asked if I could have their vehicle if they were off)
Not all agency drivers are numpties some of them may be waaaay more experienced than you. and we all need a start. some are not worth a start I agree but this last few weeks Ive been working alongside a driver with years of experience, jeeze If I don’t kill him next week I will be amazed lol he’s bloody useless.
