Sodding agency drivers!

As per title! If they’re not bashing bridges, crushing cop cars or trashing trucks they’re demanding specific runs and getting us proper, company boys taken off our nice cushy number and given the crap jobs because they don’t want them!!! Then to make matters worse, they carve the job up doing a twelve hour job in ten!!!

Sods the lot of em!!!

Yeah, I mean you!

They need to drag the job out Cavey.

That flexible lifestyle and beach front pad in Malibu doesn’t just ’ happen ’ you know mate

Don’t joke mate, we had one lad take 15 hours to do a 7 hour job!!! For some reason we don’t see him anymore!

had one do a run at ours today, took him an age to leave the yard and then told us later he couldn’t deal with how we work so wouldn’t be coming back tomorrow.

Hopefully the agency might send us a half decent agency bod one day.

I’m here…erm, as long as the job doesn’t start until next week and it’s within 200 miles drive of Nottingham (won’t get rich driving any further you know).

Would also love to know where these people find all the work as there must be loads if they can afford to say “sod this”. Defo in the wrong bit of the country, or trying to do a decent job is the wrong way to do things. Right, from now on I’m gonna bash the truck, swear at all the fulltimers and look like a slob. This year Rodney we’ll be millionaires…!

Is this going to turn into a ‘need popcorn?’ thread…?

Some people have to start somewhere, and agencies are usually the first port of call, unless they ‘luckily’ land on their feet…

You’ve got to ask, why are agency workers doing your work?

If I was your gaffer, I would be wondering how he can do it 2 hours faster. Maybe the agency bod is just more efficient as a driver. Or maybe he is just more competent. Looks like your cushy little numbers maybe gone.

Full timer 0 agency 1  :open_mouth:

As already stated, the agency Guy can do the job two hours quicker…

We use a fair bit of agency especially in the summer months to cover holidays etc and yeah they pretty much get the straightforward work to avoid any issues as some of stuff is effectively multi-drop and time sensitive so it comes down to simply too many problems if given to an agency driver who isn’t familiar with our runs.

A couple of them we’ve been getting in regular for a couple of years (obviously some don’t mind or suit working for an agency longer term) and to be fair they know the job no problem and will muck in on whatever work on at the time. But an agency tends to go through a lot of staff so most of the ones sent in are new to us.

Unfortunately a lot of companies in the industry has relied on agency for the past 25 years for a whole host of reasons and will do for the next 25 too…

I’ll also say I’ve never known an agency driver to “cut the job up” as such, they usually take a bit longer than the full timer (and we’re usually not too hard pushed unless we’re mega busy). I’ve always put this down to them being a) hourly paid so trying to get as long a shift as possible out of it and b) unfamiliar with the deliveries/job/equipment/paperwork etc which is fair enough.

Tell you what ■■■■ I have worked in truck garages all my workin life (45 years) and I have to admit that some agency men are cowboys.BUT you have a lot of “limpers” I think you “proffessionals” call them that can leave you clever boys standing
An instance, the other day a flat bed needed sheeting.
Not one of our local “experts” had a ■■■■■ clue so they came to the garage because I can sheet a trailer,■■■■■■ off cause Im busy but an agency lad whoes truck I was repairing said I can do a bit of sheeting .
He said I will do it and he did>
Left our resident ■■■■■ experts aghast.
Never judge a book by its cover.Because some" agency" men out there could kick your ■■■ and put it in a box my friend.

I must have annoyed an agency earlier when I rang my workplace and asked for overtime and got given a run and then 10 mins later I rang up to change that run to a harder one (Based on where the delivery is) the planner said to me I’ve just cancelled the agency for that 1st run and now you want this other one instead so I’ll have to cancel the agency for that and get the other agency back on for that 1st one.

I did chuckle to myself.

Paid by the hour and this is what you get, drivers plobbing along dragging the job out when it can be done literally hours quicker, and this particular one is a perfect show case. Paid per load (employed and agency) and it wont happen, in fact it’ll be the reverse…

I had to have a few days off last week due to daughter being ill so work got agency in to do my run for 3 days, when I left the truck last week it was spotless, got in it Monday, windscreen has 3 cracks in, stains over the seats and carpet and endless amounts of food wrappers and to top it off the tw*t has been smoking in it and politely filled the ashtray up with ash! There are some incredibly good agency drivers and then there are some that are completely ridiculous!

I hope you informed the employer, he can then claim back the cost of cleaning the vehicle from the agency and ban the fool from the Company. Tramp

BOO HOO !!!

It’s grand to see the FTW’s are whining and erm… whining on and on about the good ole agency bods.

It warms the cockles of my heart to hear the big Jessie’s crying, long may it continue.

The country would grind to a standstill without agency hero’s like me carving up the job and don’t

you FTW’s forget it, you complete and utter wind instruments !

Agency motto…

" Those who can do, those who can’t become FTW’s and whine, whine, whine about those who can ". :stuck_out_tongue:

Carry on whining.

This didn’t happen !

If I was on not much more than minimum wage, I would be dragging the job out.

I was off the road working in engineering for 18 years before I retired and started doing agency work to get back into the game.
Doing some shifts for a well known firm from this area that pays good money too, I was doing: Tip Stockton on Tees, tip Gateshead, reload Ripon then back to Stoke.
Piece of ■■■■ in a 12hour shift.
The TM asked me how did it as their own drivers would have a night out on that job!
I told them I was not here to cut the job up, but their own drivers were taking the ■■■■.
Shortly after I got myself a regular job for my present employer but only doing two shifts a week which I’ve been doing for 14 years.
Likewise my son who started his career driving puddle jumpers before he was made redundant and went on to take his class 2, then back doing agency work until his present fulltime job came up, where he’s been for 3 years.

I’m agency and dragging the job out is beneficial for myself and the client.

They have an oversupply of trucks and most deliveries are planned WAY early, so I trundle along at 50 mph instead of 56. This makes me an extra £5 a day and saves them about £25 a shift in fuel and wear and tear, whilst not compromising delivery times or vehicle availability.

Long distance/international timed work is different, but on this work, the 12% increase in time taken is way outbalanced by the 25% saving in fuel.
