Was going out for a few pints with my mate today, he then tells me that he can’t as be has been called back in off his holidays (as everybody else on the firm has), to work tomorrow because of the ‘crisis’.
He works for Stobbies.

who the hell answers a phone call from work on their day off :open_mouth: …unless he needs the ££ of course

My answer " sorry boss I’m not in the UK or on Isle of wight and can’t get a ferry "

Don’t know how to split quotes…

Copy the whole quote, then paste into your reply, then delete the parts that are not relevant leaving only the line you are referring to, then reply to that point. Just as I have done to your quote. Repeat as many times as required.
Also handy for when multiple people have been quoted in the same post and you only wish to respond to a point 1 poster has made, this shortens posts and save scrolling through a lengthy list just to read someone’s reply

They’d suss you out for lying due to the dial tone they’d hear when they ring you up

Or: Open a reply, scroll down thread below answer box, highlight the bit to quote, and then hit “quote” button. Easy to quote from different contributors then. But whatever works for you of course.

they do not require longer hours…IF it can not be done in the hours they have then work it out better. The hours are to long now ,…what is it they say tiredness kills.I do not think it needs to be done…I would have to be hard pushed to work more hours

a licence is one thing, driving a modern day lorry is another… :exclamation:

Those Army lads will have been trained on Fodens, Roadtrains,.and (Oshkosh? ) tank transporters.
So I reckon a ‘car-like’ modern truck with an auto box will be a piece of ■■■■ in comparison.

Yes but will they be allowed to travel in convoy so each ‘driver’ has 20 or so ‘banksmen’ to reverse them up like so see in the services!

They may have banksmen… because they can and its ■■■■■■■ safer…

Fancy that eh?

I’ll do what I always do: as few hours as I can get away with. Society and the industry haven’t been very kind to us, so I don’t feel like being very kind to them now.

Thank ■■■■ you never joined old bill or the army [emoji1787]

I was offered some very good money for the weekend doing fridges…I declined as soon as I knew it was for replenishment of expected panic buying commodities.
I shall not become complicit in the demise of the human race.

That’s a bit different to be asked, or even expected to (what is essentially) drive over your time when suddenly deemed safe and legal.
If you were offered ‘some very good money’ for doing a normal job, it maybe wasn’t the wisest move to decline .
I suspect this is the time when you come back with…‘‘I don’t need the money’’.

After years of under funding (sound familiar yet?) they have just one to share between them on a turn based rota.

I have only driven a lorry two times in the last month and a half, so I could have done it no problem and I initially said I would work Sunday and it was a bit of a name your price thing to be honest, but I realised that I would not do it, I dont work weekends for anything and I am doing silly money in the week on my own business, so I told them I would only let them down and that is not me and especially as it was to replenish idiots behaviour…..So I have not done it as I do genuinely not need the Wonga.....Dont get me wrong, I am not earning loads on my own business, but I am earning enough to keep me in toilet rolls

I’m not trying not to make this personal, believe me, I really am not . . . but the more you post, the more you come across as a complete and utter ■■■■.

Possibly. If so, I apologise for feeding him.

robroy:
So what’s your take on it?

Is it …

''Bring it on, 90hours? Think of my brilliant wage at 10 quid an hour right through"

Or is it …

‘‘They can go and [zb] themselves, it’s a matter of principle,…ie, you can’t just move the goalposts with all the [zb] going over your time usually brings, when they’ve drummed it into us that it is ‘‘dangerous’’ then just change their policy and opinion when it suits’’.

Mine is another option. Hours are not a problem rarely go above 11 in a day, 4 days a week. I will not be working any rest day because my wife & I have 3 parents all over 80. If, as is being suggested, they will soon be expected to isolate themselves for possibly months then we & my sister will be part of the support network stepping up to do some of the stuff they might not be advised to do. That said my mum is a stubborn mare who is very independant & will not be an easy ‘‘inmate’’ .

I don’t shift food any more but realistically my co-workers & I will be very lucky to avoid the virus & waste will still need moving.
