So what makes you stay for your current employer

Just the comfort and ease of the place,
Its basically 8-5 Mon - Fri with anything outside them hours at time n half, average 3 hours overtime a week, Night out is £50+ meal allowance, I aint done a night out since about September.
Its 5 minutes in the car or 25 minutes walk, and despite our moans and grumbles there are a few perks within the job, the odd day we may have to get a shift on but were paid a bonus for what we deliver so the more we shift the more the pocket gets.

Our wages are not brilliant by any stretch, but with the perks and conveniance its easily worth £100 a week less than what you may call a decent wage.

Prima donna drivers :unamused: . Try investing in a couple of trucks with your own money and see if your attitude is the same, no wonder you move around a lot.

not necessarily! :open_mouth: you try " loosing " your job, through no fault of your own :unamused: last July and then working every single day legally till march! agency leeches have Donald ducked it big style, but not as much as THE big multi nationals who think there doing you a favour by PAYING you £7.75 per hour for 71 hours a week! :imp: in the old days, you could punch your boss on the nose, and drive for joe blogs with better wages and bigger BHP! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: I miss them red telephone boxes and a pile of coins looking for a backload! :grimacing: WHY DID THEY KNOCK THE BERLIN WALL DOWN AND INVENT MOBILE PHONES! :bulb:  :exclamation:

I agree, I had good pay/conditions type jobs for 10 or 12 yrs or so before present UK only one, but was made redundant, I’ve been looking to change since I started 3yrs ago, but the only jobs available are side steps, ie same ■■■■ money same “If you don’t like it there are plenty drivers around” attitude towards their drivers, the European job is now shagged, so I’m still looking.
So the answer to o/p is …There are no good jobs available at the moment.

My employer is 3 minutes from my house, they have new/recent tackle & the job is monday to friday with no weekends or nights out.
I came to this job after taking redundancy from BP after 17 years & I don’t miss the shifts or weekend work. (or the constant whitling away at pay & conditions)

The whole package which most people don’t see. Most drivers see employers as just a number, the wage, but I’ve always wanted more than that. Up till I started here I had many jobs the longest of which lasted a year. I’ve now been here 6 years. I could earn more elsewhere but I wouldn’t get such a great all round deal. A family firm, the bosses are 4 brothers and you can talk to them anytime about anything, they are there on the ground doing the job not hidden away in some office away from the drivers, the money is ok, no hassle (I speak to office at Most 2/3 times a week and exchange a handful of texts just with loading and shipping info) jobs by text, if your late they just say ‘no worries keep us informed’, rarely pushed, always asked to do things they never say ‘you must…’, quality well maintained equipment, never ever been refused a day off wherever I want it or a holiday, never in 6 years had an argument with anyone and last but not least I get to drive a quite nice lorry

What makes me stay with my current employer?

8.00 am till 4.30 pm Mon-Fri, no weekends. I spend most of my time flitting round in a Vw Caddy van rarely ever more than 2 hours from home. Occasionally I have to drive the 18 tonner, what a bummer

I don’t clock on or off, if I’m a few mins late no-one cares & if the works done early I’m told to “sod off home”

Rarely are there any deadlines, rarely do I get any fone calls… I’m just left to get on with it.

Ok, the money ain’t great but after years of 7 days a week/15 hour days I realised that money isn’t everything.

Been with my current employer around 18 months and its the best job I’ve had  were not always pushed to do the job unless we’re very busy but also not made or asked to break the law,the gaffer always thanks you @the end of the day n tells you to take care (which means a lot IMO),money’s ok ,lots of variety, decent kit, lets ya use garage to fix ya motor, will buy parts for ya car @ trade treated like a human being not a number  generally gives ya a job n leaves ya to it  decent Xmas party

There’s nothing else closer to home that pays 25k a year so I’m stuck.

i park the lorry about a mile from my house, and the money is good, and i’m on log book not tacho…
apart from that i dont like the firm or the job very much at all.

wages - no
hours of work - no
truck I drive - no
distance to/from work - no

Just the fact that the job is easy and its a great bunch of lads / lasses

Comedy value to be honest :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

I stay for the uniform, i think its great. :unamused:

I stay because I am a blue eyed boy.

money!

There a good bunch to work for, never on your back and leave you to get on with the job and understand when things dont go to plan. Money is ok and have a half decent truck which i have the option to live in it full time if i wanted. Not sure how long i’ll be here as i get bored easily but there dont seem to be many companies out there that would take me on (due to age) that could offer better deal.

If I went anywhere else I would have to work for a living.

I stay because it is good money, its easy, get my own unit ok its a heap of ■■■■ but its my own. Home every night, no interaction with any bosses/planners. Its so boring though

It’s that or nothing…

Enjoyment, excitement, Adventure, the adrenalin rush, and excellent wages.

good truck, reasonable wages, most deliveries are self offload to farms using Moffet so no waiting around to be unloaded and flexible delivery times,no timed deliveries.Left to get on with the job. In 5 years I’ve met my manager less than half a dozen times!

what makes me stay ? the comedy value i suppose , just lately transport management seem to have a knack of taking on people who are totaly unsuitable for the job . so begs the question why if all the existing drivers can see it why cant the yes men ? last bloke who indroduced himself i said i’d give him a month he was sort of sacked after 3 weeks then due no other applicants , they took him back on  it’s harder to get the sack than to get the job !

i love my job , it’s a good employer , close to where i live , got decent money , time off, equipment to use ,uniform’d right up, people you meet & people i work with , i wouldn’t want to socialise with them , but i’m quite happy to laugh at , moan with / about etc,etc …& thats about it really
