So much for working this weekend

had a few phone calls yesterday offering work over the weekend period took the first job that was offered…turned up this morning all happy at 4 am too find out i was’nt booked in at all,so it’s cost me fuel there and back ,apparently it was 12 hr shifts so £13.50 for today and £18.00 an hr sunday and monday, ive rang the agency up and complained and he said there must be lack of communication at the company ive asked if im still entilted to 8 hrs pay,the agent says yes if the company admits it’s there ■■■■ up,CANT SEE THAT HAPPENING,i work like to thank these for costing me 3 days wages,as i aint gunna get any more work now until tuesday

Stuff “If the company admits it’s their ■■■■-up!”
Your contract is with the agency. 8hrs thank you very much. Happened to me recently. :sunglasses:

Thats bad, happened to me on new years day 2011. Was companys fault so ended up getting 8hrs at £15ph.

Your agency/s if your works been canceled or wrongly booked should still phone you with last minute stuff over next three days? :bulb:

I had a few agencies who’d never given me any work before kicking me out of bed (cos I was on nights last week) to find out “my availability for the weekend” now in progress. :imp:

Phone has of course been completely silent since then. You’re expected to sit by the phone like a girl after a first date waiting for it to ring, and then of course the work doesn’t materialise!

No problem in my case, as I rely on that happening. I’ve already declared to HMRC based on the assumption that there’s going to be no work this weekend, and I’ll get a little extra as a result.

The moral is, if you’re going to be stitched up over BH expectations, then find a way to make it pay. I originally wanted to do any or every day across the weekend, with weekly rest being tuesday/wednesday next week!

surely if the agency book you for a job and you turn up at said place you have attended as booked, so its down to the agency to pay you for gonig even if its to cover your costs, if you had got the company you went to, to sign your time sheet and stating on the time sheet you were not booked in by the agency to them, its got nothing to do with them but you would have more of a leg to stand on with the agency when trying to fight for your money, now i ain’t done agency work for 20 yrs, and when i was, i was on the books with the one i worked for so got guaranteed 40 yrs each week, :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

This ↑, if it’s not the clients fault then it must be the agencies fault so either way you should be paid.

I’ve had this happen about 3 times in the past few months and each time I put in a time sheet for 8 hours and each time got paid for 8 hours.

^^^^What he said^^^^^

IMO 8hrs minimum gotta be paid
Even better if its on a weekend or bank holiday when premium rates are in play. occasionally certain agency → client contracts may have been negotiated with the clause stating you get 4hrs min, if cancelled within 1hr of start time, and 2hrs min if cancelled within 2-3hrs of start time, but once your at the gate, its too late.
