Coming down a country lane (so 40-50 mph), coming round a corner and onto a bridge. Guy on bridge. Coming up to it I thought he was just gandering at the traffic or something. Guy turns round to look at the approaching truck then STAGGERS IN THE BLEEPING ROAD. I started braking, but not much (turned out for the better, if I’d slowed down more he could’ve got in front of me and I wouldn’t have stopped in time). I tried to shout some abuse at him, pulled up after the bridge, and called the rozzers (dude was seriously drunk with no friends around. I felt it the best thing to do (especially as he was running at trucks)).
Unsettled me a bit. Yesterday I almost ran over a kitty (thing ran off when I tried to catch it, but only to the pavement, where it sat staring at it’s spot in the road), and today I almost kill a person (though not my fault). Sadly I realised later I’d given them really bad directions (got the road the bridge went over wrong, and I was nowhere near the actual industrial estate), but I did my part I guess. Didn’t see him again when I went back the other way.

I ran over a traffic warden once. He sprinted up an alley and into a garden but I got the sod eventually!
You’re doing God’s work.
Back in 2003 I had a young girl run out in front of me, she died at the scene, I had done everything I could to avoid the collision but it wasnt to be, thing is it was a couple of years later that it hit me as I knew I had done nothing wrong and we where dealing with my 10 year old stepson who had cancer then somehow I got my Mrs pregnant… so my psychologist decided it was a delayed PTSD, no ■■■■ Sherlock.
Anyway, I gave up the driving for a bit but here I am back, I hate towns and busy streets as I get very nervous of people close to the kerb or just not paying attention.
I am glad other wise this guy would not be here today, this was a few weeks ago in Shrewsbury, I saw him as I approached the parked flat back, I just knew he was going to go for it.
He ■■■■ himself though
Had this plenty of times on the buses. Worst one is foreign students looking the wrong way before crossing or people getting confused about bus lane layouts meant they’d just step into the road looking the wrong way. The drunk I hit survived but I have a few colleagues who have been involved in fatals.
Mick, the accident I had was when I drove buses, to make it even worse I knew the girls family, she had downs syndrome and had a history of poor attention at roads
I took to buses mid 80’s as nothing much for a class 3 drivers then, but kept driving for 13 years TA
Driving down the road from Pontycymer to the M4 yesterday, all the local ‘Inbreds’ drive like idiots & park all over the place, it’s almost 1 lane up & down the valley, especially through the villages, a Special ‘Inbred’ Girl was stood at a bus stop, looked up, saw me & stepped straight out into the road, making me brake (I was only doing 20/30mph) she stepped straight back onto the pavement & started laughing with her ‘Inbred’ Husband/Brother/Father. (Probably carrying an Inbred Baby too)
Same here, first few months driving the buses, two EE guys walk out from behind a van, looking the other way, I jumped on the anchors managed to avoid them… unfortunately a young girl sitting on the front seat next to her mum came hurtling down the bus. She needed urgent medical attention, the police showed up first and breathalized me, before the ambulance arrived. I felt terrible.

Lol I forgot about the people inside the bus too. I’ve had a wheelchair tip over after having to do an emergency stop. Can laugh about it now but at the time it was a little more serious.
Takes some balls to get back in the saddle after your incident. You have my admiration.
Thank you, it was a long road so to speak and it was a hard decision but I am now mentally stronger and see life far less seriously than before, it’s here to enjoy so I make the most of it

I would have kept going ,I had it years ago in my car when I was giving my sister a lift, bloke saw me coming and stepped out and very slowly started crossing I swear he was doing it to wind me up as his two mates were watching,i never slowed and he ended up running to the other side at the same time as calling me all the names under the sun ,my sister could not believe it and said he almost bounced off my bonnet,my reply was he should not have tried to get a laugh at my expense

That was a lucky sod a kid got killed in Stockport only a few week ago doing similar but walking out in front of a bus he had got off ang got decapitated by a passing truck.
Happend in the town centre in the middle of the day. Must have been an horrific site.

One time, I was driving the last bus on my route in London. It was a decker and I thought all the passengers had got off at the terminus, so I switched off all the lights and started the three mile drive back to the bus garage.
Because I was a bit bored and it was late at night, I decided to see what the bus could do? So I came storming up to red lights and then stamped hard on the the brake. While at the lights, I pumped the brake pedal (auto box) to get the bus bouncing up and down like one of those yank cars that have the trick suspension. Then, I tore around a few corners trying to get the bus to lean and then stamped on the brake a few more times. It was all safe, the streets were empty and I had clear vision of the road ahead at all times.
Anyway, going down Brixton High Road, there was suddenly a ‘ding’ on the bell. WTF?
Then this rasta bloke comes staggering down the stairs in the darkened bus. “Blimey, where did you come from” I said. “Hey man” he says. " Dat was de best bus ride ever. Better dan any of dem roller coaster ting at de Alton Towers"
I started apologizing profusely as I opened the doors, but he just waved me away and staggered off into the night. It certainly taught me to check the bus thoroughly after that, before doing any stunts with the bus.
Back when I did buses I was on a 75 route coming down Castlemilk drive. There was two boys about 15 running down the pavement. I never gave them much thought till one of them appeared right in my front window. I slammed on the anchors but it was too late. He saw as well his smart ■■■ idea had gone belly up and he jumped. He bounced off my windscreen and twisted out flat as he flew across the road. Unfortunately for him there was a 34 bus coming UP the hill opposite and he bounced off the offside corner. I got out and started to phone an ambulance. At this point his mate appeared and started with “No,you dont need the police. he’ll be fine”. I said hes just been hit by two buses. Im phoning an ambulance. After a few minutes of coaxing by his mate, the bouncy boy staggered to his feet. His mate shoved the other driver out the way and got his pal to climb on his back. He then gave him a piggyback as they ran off into Croftfoot, never to be seen again! Myself and the other driver looked at each other with “did that just happen?” looks on our faces
They breed them tough in Castlemilk!

When I worked out of Parkhead depot, one of the drivers on the 46 collided with a kid on a dirt bike trying to race him, had to get the fire brigade out to lift the bus off him lol… tough and thick… all though, wouldn’t be saying that in Castlemilk
