It doesn’t matter what folk think of you. I wore a suit to work for 18 yrs, running supermarkets. Despised it, but when I started it, the money was brilliant compared to what my mates were earning. Then as you get a bit older, you realise that they’re having a laugh at work, and you’re going out of your mind. Running a supermarket isn’t a skilled job, you don’t need any qualifications to do it, a bit of common sense will see you through.
I then ditched my suit and donned a white boiler suit for 6 years, ran production at a food company. Paid really well too. During my time in retail, all manner of legislation had come in, and I had to know it all, even if companies didn’t even follow it. That was purely and simply what landed me that job.
Much happier behind the wheel. Don’t give a hoot what anyone thinks of me.
