Most of the snow melt from Tampere week or two ago and last snow pile I was seeing from my window melt two days ago so I think now is appropiate time to post some winter pictures (with some trucks of course). Now there is still some (10 to 50cm deep) snow in northern Finland, especially in the woods, and from these links you might still be able to see some snow (road administrations weather cameras).
Scenery was very beatiful just before Christmas. Regrettably I don’t have any picture taken above forest where best scenery was so I post best shot I have, altough this small picutre size flattens the experience little bit.
At the next two weeks (after Christmas) I worked few days and most of these pictures are from that period.
Few days after Christmas I stopped for a lunch near Tampere and I spotted this FH12 6x4 which has very unusual driveline for an artic in a general haulage.
Just an ordinary picture from that days weather, about -10C to -15C and suprisingly slippery as moisture had frozen to road surface, just like it had frozen to the trees in first picture. About 60 km further south a rigid training vehicle driving reasonably far behind me almost collided to my trailer as car driving in front of me stopped to wait for a gap in traffic to turn left over the road. Car driver put indicator on early enough for me to safely reduce speed but trainee in a rigid vehicle probably didn’t notice I was slowing down. After his vehicle had stopped it was really close to mine and when we got moving again he at least doubled distance between us.
Earlier at the same day little bit north from Tampere I was wondering why every car was overtaking me, but I had forgotten that some parts of this road aren’t affected by general 80 km/h winter speed limit. So they just keep driving 100+ km/h despite the weather
Week later almost at the same place but now there is salt on the road. Note young trees leaning on the elk barrier because of the weight of the wet snow.
At Varkaus paper mills I spotted this Iveco which might look familiar, as I’ve posted picture of it once earlier.
Here I’m doing a collection from a farm. Note snow in left end of front bumper. I had to pull my way from main road to this farm across a snow bank left by snow plough, which wasn’t the problem but I almost got stuck to that snow bank when was doing 120 degree turn over it to get back to main road
Quite basic FH12 equipped with swap body and 5 axle a-frame drawbar trailer has just left terminal. Truck is owned by Schenker, which is on of the three big owners of Finnish logistics company Kiitolinja.
FL12 owned by another big Finnish logistics company. This truck is also equipped with swap body but is hauling 2 axle semitrailer with special dolly trailer. In this picture truck is clearly running empty, propably heading to do a collection so that another driver can do trunk run at night and at some point swap bodies and trailers with ones another truck brings from elsewhere and head back to home. Picture is taken at March 20. just before I accidentally drop my camera, which of course broke, and since it’s been in repair, mostly waiting for parts to arrive.
Lonely Volvo.
Sun is shining nicely, I’ve collected load and have just drank coffee in a small cafe just outside this picture. Now I only have to avoid frostbites when stepping out from the cab as air is quite freshening (-23C). Fumes you see are coming from webasto which is warming water in boxes underfloor heating.
Riding to sunset with my reliable horse like in every Lucky Luke comic book
