Snow-Chains

thats easy the firm i work for drives into austria regulary and
the fines for offences for heavy transport are higher than
those for cars, this goes double for n ADR-HAZ TRAFFIC;
if you are caught out with the wrong tyres or not haveing the
complete winter equipement, even down to haveing :NO de-icer
in your windowscreen washer bottle, I am not picking but
the ÖMATC deals mainly< with cars, i will try to get a
the austrian list for fines ,i have the one for germany,

That’s a fair point about the ÖMATC brit pete, I do accept that it’s primarily for cars and m/c’s.

I quoted from this:

Vom 1.

The part in red specifically relates to “all trucks of over 3,500 KgsGVW” and, as I said, I believe it to be a straightforward translation, and from an credible source.

I agree with you brit pete, in that any fines are more likely to be more expensive when there’s ADR involved, or some other aggravating factor. In Germany, Gefährdung (endangerment) usually increases the level of a fine, whilst Sachbeschädigung (damage) will usually increase a penalty to an even higher level. :open_mouth:

IMHO, it would be good for all concerned if you could find accurate info on the Austrian equivalent of BkatV, but please say where it’s from… :wink:

According to Swedish law Swedish trucks and cars must use winter tyres from Nov 1 to Mars 31 when it is snow, is frost, ice or sluch on the way. No law about chains. But nothing says about trucks from other contrys.
A truck from England as visit Sweden temporary during the Winter season and has other tyres than winter tyres is allowed run here. But without the right tyres this truck driver has an disadvantage if it begins to snow because it kan be heawy.

Because Swedich trucks is allowed a gross weight of 60 ton and a truck will force a little slope it can get stuck in deep snow. As you all know the tires are being warm and it a large truck must stop it can then begin to skid because the tyres makes the way slippery. 3+4 (7 sometimes 8 total axels) and 26 wheels made a large resistance when move and are is tough to pull

The Europe way 4 is most of the winter time clean and they use salt and plow it frequently when it snow. But other ways than E4 can be more slippery. If it is very cold (10-20 degrees belov zero) it is lesser slippery. If the temperature is around ±0 C a different friction come up I.E. slippery.
