After working extra, i was nearly at the end of a 30min break when I switched the ignition on to light up the display on the tacho to check the time. I realised after it was too late that switching on the ignition automatically puts it onto other work. (a '57 Volvo)
Now I’m sat here being kept out of bed, waiting for 30 mins to pass, just so I can make the remaining 20min journey back to base. It’s past my bed time!!!
if you flick it back to break straight away the other work dosn’t register.
i’m not sure how long you’ve got before it registers, but i’ve switched mine over manually by mistake, then switched it straight back without any problems.
never had it change when putting the ignition on though. i’ve only had similar problems when trying to start it with a low battery.
My old 58reg Actros automaticly went on to break when I turned the ignition off. You can change this setting, but it has to go to an authorised tacho centre to have it done.
That ■■■■■ mate, I just skimmed into base last night on 4hrs 25 driving and 5hrs 52 work time pulled my card and scampered out the yard in the nick of time lol, every coffin dodger in the world in front of me for the last 30 miles making me think I would fall just short of base lol.

I think its better that way, better off recording break by mistake than other work.
Ours were changed from going to other work.
Why not just return to break, do a couple of printouts, and make a manual entry on the back with explanation? The time stamp on the printouts will help with the credibility if very close to the time covered by the manual entry.
If the wheels haven’t turned you will be all-right, it’s hardly unusual turning on the ignition to open a window, or power an auxiliary device, illuminate the tacho head etc.

I disagree, most of us do more “other work” in a day than you do “breaks” and if you have forgotten to change it to other work while your tipping/pulling curtains or what ever then vosa would not be happy if you were to be caught.

All depends on the type of work you do I suppose if you do multi drop and are constanly loading and unloading then it would be other work, if you do trunking chances are it will be waiting at an rdc then poa/break would suit you.

most of us do other work?
you’re [zb]ing kidding?
where’s the mode switch for less than break?
something like a [zb] all switch? a comatosed switch?
