Sneaky speed cameras....A5

Just thought I would let you know that the speed cameras on the A5/A444 junction at the Redgate pub have had their speed limits reduced to 40mph. Several of our drivers have been caught out over the last week or so…be aware!
Cheers… :imp:

I saw an artic get flashed through there yesterday, as I was driving the other way. Couldn’t work out why the camera went off… now it all makes sense. Thats a sneeky camera there stuck right behind a road sign. Think I’ll start going through it at 30 mph see how they like it

As an aside how do these Gatsos know that a truck is passing ? I have never seen any sensors and have never been able to work out how they know.

Not positive about this but they could measure the reflected energy, quite a simple process actually.

From what I understand Calv, a lot of them use weight sensors in the road… a car or Bike is a hell of a lot lighter than a Lorry, even when empty, so the weight sensor picks up the vehicle, and adjusts to suit…

But if its stuck behind a sign post and is not visible, Thats illegal!!, they should be visible and signs put up before the camera, to warn you of a camera…

At least this is how I’ve been led to believe… :unamused: :unamused:

those 2 cameras are possibly the only 2 in the country that were put up to stop accidents i grew up near tamworth which aint that far from there and that junction has seen many accidents and a fair few of them fatal as my cousins friend who owns the pub there can testify too.but your right about the southbound one behind the tree it is a bit sneeky.thats actually the second one thats been there a builder from boston got flashed so he drove all the way home to pick up a metal grinder came back and cut it down.he recived 6 points and a thousand pound fine (now wasnt that worth it )instead of 3 points and 60 quid. :unamused:

I think that they have set the cameras to 40 and are just eliminating the cars. Either that or its weight sensors. Im not opposed to comeras being in blackspots and that junction is, but if you drive further down the a5 towards mira (hinckley) theres a new sighn that lights up just as you get to the brow of the hill. This isnt a camera but it seems just as effective.
Also Ive been through this camera many times at 50 and never got flashed but to 'move the goalposts ’ is a bit low.
I wonder how many more cameras will sput up along the A5 in the comming years.
I wonder if local councils review their budgets and think ‘we need x amount this week to balance the books, let make a few cameras “live” and bring in some extra revenue’.

sounds like the council are skint ironblood… what better way to make a few quid than to get it from hgv drivers.

Errrrrrmmmmmmm I may be wrong here but is’nt the A5 a single carriageway where the Cameras are, which of course means it’s 40 Mph anyway?

It is actually Dual Carriageway, where the cameras are, but there is only one running lane, the other lane is a slip lane for traffic turning right or crossing, or it is just zigzagged out of use. There is no lower speed limit posted so I read it as LGV 50 mph, others 60 mph.

I’m trying to think of the layout where the camera is behind the tree/sign. I know it is at the start of the separation. I’ll check it out tomorrow when I go that way.

I think an email to Warwickshire Highwaymen is in order.

The section I’m thinking about starts a couple of miles west of Tamworth Services and then runs across towards Wolverhampton way, cant think of the place names off hand, I know I got flashed there a few weeks back doing 45 mph but nothing came of it. Admittedly though it was single lane and I was in the Wrong

the one camera southbound behind the tree and sign is on the single lane bit.davey that bit where you were sounds like hints village at the top of the hill theyre currentley building a bypass joining the releif road/a38 with the new a5 at the bottom of hints hill opening sometime next year
