Snack Wagons on Lay-bys

Tipper-driver01:

Loggo:
Why do snack vans always seem to close and go home between 14.30 and 15.00 - just as I’m getting peckish ?

Not allowed to serve past that time.

I use one every now and then on the A6 near Garstang.

a few years ago, just before closing in the afternoon, the lass was on her own & was badly attacked, hospitalised & the days takings robbed.

Last year we presented the council with a 1,070 petition signed by people using the lay-by for breaks. Been in touch with our MP and various councillors in the area and have done research into accidents and still this one person on the highways is being a real pain. Next I am going to get in touch with HIS boss and see if there is a clause which would help the campaign.

the best van i have ever stopped at is on the top of the 62 in heartshead moor services east bound. only thing that did concern me a bit one day was the lady who stands and cooks the food was frying away (fri so very busy) her husband threw a piece of steak on the fryer and she roared at him cause she didnt want it on yet, so he took it of and put it back in the box with the raw meat. it wasnt on the frier very long, but still long enough to turn colour, im no chef but i know that you have to keep raw and cooked seperate.

I think a link to this would be appropriate here:

has anyone tried it?

There is only one I ever stop at because generally I find them puke-inducing. :open_mouth:

The only one is opposite Ruthin Precast on the A525 between Ruthin and Denbigh. The woman in there keeps things clean and uses local meat too - very nice.

I know its not much use to the majority of you on here but if you are in the area with a rumbling belly it might be worth a stop.

Thanks driverone for the contact page for Brian Thompson.
I went to the Cherio cafe this morning for coffee and it has been run for the past 11 months by a portuguese couple who have a little boy running all over the place. It has been freshly painted and is cleaner cos there is no smoking, but wish they would get their seats repaired, all torn to bits.
After that visit, I went to The Kitchen, which used to be Boundry Cafe on the A15 halfway between Sleaford and Lincoln. Had a lovely roast dinner and anyone who knows how to do pork crackling is a good chef for me. I am visiting these cafes to supply them with the leaflets and posters for the A17 road crossing update.
