I’ve noticed a lot more people stopping in laybys to have a smoke.

Inevitable really; most would probably be hire or company cars which could cause problems if you got caught quite apart from the legal angle. Modern cars don’t tend to have ashtrays either.
Is it such a bad thing though? Back when I smoked tobacco (still use e-cigs) if I was getting tired I’d be lighting a ciggie whilst driving to keep me from nodding off, now I’d be stopping, getting out and stretching me legs; so the net result should be less tired drivers which on balance has to be a positive from a safety point of view. And speaking as a motorcyclist, if they’re stopping to have a smoke it reduces the chances of me having to dodge a ■■■-end lobbed out of a car window.
Have to agree with other posters though, whilst I see the logic of the enforcement where kids in the car are concerned, realistically it’s not for the state to dictate that, more for parents to have some regard for their kids’ well-being. Having said that, my parents used to smoke in the car when I was a kid; but of course it wasn’t such a big deal back then.
Hmmm, got a minor problem with one of the bullit points…
The law doesn’t apply when someone under the age of 18 is smoking and is the only person in the vehicle.
So an under 18 can smoke in the car on their own…
What happens if the only person that smokes in a car of 4 people is the under 18 ?
Does the law then apply ?
Does everyone in the car then have a duty to stop the under 18 from smoking to protect the under 18 ?
Confused :S
Utterly pointless! My parents smoked and so did my grandparents. I have smoked for 22 years and I am not registered with a doctor. I moved 6 years ago and didn’t bother getting a new one since I have no health issues beyond aches and pains courtesy of HM Army
Nanny state finding new ways to mess people around since it is as pointless as banning us from smoking in trucks. Has anyone been done for that?
Its illegal for under 18s to smoke anyway isn’t it?

My father in law smoked for years. He had to have a triple heart bypass and eventually died from liver cancer earlier this year. The liver cancer was undetected and didn’t present any symptoms until it had got too late. His death was not a nice one. It took him 2 weeks to die in which time he was suffering symptoms of blood poisoning and his stomach became massively distended as his liver swelled to several times its normal size. My mother in law also smoked. Last week she had to have her nose removed because of cancer and is currently undergoing very painful reconstructive surgery - it’ll take around 9 months in total for it all to be done with. Two of my grandparents who smoked died from cancer. Two of my nephews have Duchens Muscular Dystrophy. They’re in a house where their feckless mother smokes and has lots of friends round all the time who smoke. They have breathing difficulties to the point of needing a machine, not because of the MD but because of the passive smoking.
It may not be obviously affecting you now but when you get into your 60s that’s when you’ll find out if it has and like my FIL you may not find out it has until its too late to do anything about it.

If you want a reason to stop, I’m picking this weekend toy up in a few hours. It cost the same to buy as smoking 20 a day for 16 months (couldn’t believe how much a pack of 20 cigs was when I looked it up). You can do things like that when you’re not setting fire to the thick end of £10 a day.
Its not just Wales, its England as well from the first of October and about time too.

If I could swear I would tell all the do gooders to, well you know! Ex smoker myself but why can’t people see or make it ‘safe’ for them and theirs without needing to make life miserable for others? If it WAS that dangerous then the dreaded weed would be totally banned.
No cash in that though, is there?
Hypocrites!
“To do nothing is criminal”
Thing is if they banned tobacco it would not stop people smoking. Many things are banned but are freely available if you know where to look. At least with it not being banned there is some control over the make up of what people smoke. Those smoking the illegal products have no idea what they are puffing on and it has been shown to be everything from rat droppings to sawdust…
Conor, if you had saved the ■■■ money for another few months you could have afforded a decent car
That’s not a real motor it’s a motorised bleedin roller skate !
Smokers won’t give a ■■■■. They don’t care now of the misery and embarrassment they give their kids. Why would they care of another fifty sheets.theyre already spending £70 a week on that pish. They convince themselves it don’t smell, that they don’t smell, don’t harm , and that no one could possibly smell it in the street or when they huddle in doorways. It’s long over due that it simply should be banned full stop whilst driving regardless of passengers.
Nice new car for the wife Conor, your defo gonna be knee deep in clunge this weekend. Last time I got my beloved a new motor she let me have ■■■■, I couldnt sit down for days.
Fair point though, if I had saved all the cash ive wasted on vodka and strippers I would spend it on vodka and strippers.
I predict a huge rise in the number of tearful kids found abandoned by the roadside.
Conor is now an Agency Hairdresser
Should have stuck with the ■■■■, Conor.

Yep the smell is a real turn on
And how would you know, have you ever done either ?
The last time I had a post coitus ■■■ he was used to make the drinks after a posh ■■■■ I found myself accidentally involved in. Found it a bit awkward to be fair.

Can’t confirm or deny
I was referring to a heterosexual type liaison not the other kind, but whatever turns you on and what you do is entirely your choice
