Smithfield Market

scottishcruiser:
Saw 2 of your Cammy Youngs Scania at West Thurrock last night… S80 CYJ with what seemed a colour co-ordinated trailer and the silver 4 series. Both tidy.

S80 RCY (red 6 wheeler) was doing a change over at thurrock last nite with the silver 4 series (V8 CJY), some of our trailers match our trucks but its very rare they are together, thats the joys of having a white truck, they all match mine…

Hi blissy, very interesting thred this, with some fantastic looking truck pics, noticed that you caught one of our mob(langdons)in one of the first pics, this is usuall driven by a bloke called terry. As an aside, terry used to drive a petrol tanker out of buncfield and was actually working & on site when they saw the vapour cloud coming out of one of the tanks-ask terry if u see him again & i’m sure he will fill in what happened next!!! As anothe aside,i often deliver to a company called the london meat company based in harlington high street just off the A4 at heathrow,(u may have been there yourself)in there reception they have a print hanging on the wall with a very descriptive story of the grand opening ceremony & following banquet of smithfield market back in 1868 i think & the print shows how it used to look in the day.Once again fantastic thread many thanx Darren.

ah the Girvan Flyer !!! first time seen it with a trailer on the back… :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

not a spotlight bar in sight

Whats the drill with delivering to these markets exactly? Do you have to find the company your delivering to by just parking up then walking round the site till you find them or do they have a foreman or security guy that tells you where to go so to speak or is there just a couple of bays as seen in the pics where everything is tipped then the driver shoots off whilst the goods are shifted to each store by market staff etc?
Tipped a 40ft reefer box at new Spitalfields couple years back as was just pointed in the general direction of the company I wanted so was wondering if its the same at Smithfield and other markets.
Cheers

The Daf 85 is Faccenda from Brackley…depending on when this pic was taken it was either BIG russ or Shaun driving
