Worked at Smith’s Southampton depot late '60’s - '70’s.

What depot were you at ?I WAS AT MANCHESTER AND THERE WEAR A FATHER &SON CAIIED GEORGE &PETER STOTT PETER IS AT VITAFOME NOW

Do a search on here, they’re are a few Smith’s threads, and I put a lot of photo’s on “Old Southampton Hauliers.”
Also see Brain Edgars fantastic site, with over a hundred pic’s of Smith’s motors from the early days to when they finished.
They’re are several Smith’s drivers on this site including Alex, ex Glasgow driver, with many a tale to tell !!!

This is Brians forum :- public.fotki.com/scottishtruckph … sh-trucks/ Go to Stirling / Faulkirk, then general haulage, then scroll down to Smiths ( in alphabetical order )

Fergie

I drove @ SoM Manchester for 7/8 years, were you there with Harold Gilmore, the Manager in late 70’s?

Rgds,

David

David

I remember Tam Doyle, didn’t he come from Maryhill?
As to the Fleet Number, I am now not sure it was 999, maybe it was 888!
Tam worked with Tam Ash at Carntyne on recovery after Smiths (No hill too steep - No ditch too deep!), last time I met him he was working for an Irish firm who hauled mushrooms. Haven’t seen him for years.
