Was talking with my mate this week and he informs me that failing to slow down a bit and let the guy taking 5 miles to overtake you on the motorway is now (or is going to be) an offence. You all know the scenario, your doing 55.5mph and the guy overtaking you is doing 55.6mph. From a defensive driving view point, it would be good practice to slow down a bit and let them pass as it gives you a space or way out of danger if thing go a bit pear shaped and I can see its benefits to maintaining traffic flow ( especially on 2 lane dual carriageways etc). However, power to weight ratio and windage affects how trucks cope with inclines and slight changes in topography so I for one can’t see how any honest copper can make that distinction in an instant. Anyone heard of this or is it just more waiting room BS…
As I’m resticted to 85kph (to save the planet) I spend half my life going backwards in traffic anyway. Having to slow down still further is going to really make driving more boring than it is already.
I do back off a km or two to let an overtaker in if it’s taking too long, plenty of times I’ve been kept out by others though, I can’t see what the problem with backing off for 5-10 seconds is.
I always look at how much faster than me they are going, if its going to be a slow overtake then I ease off slightly, if its only going to take a short amount of time then I let them go without easing off. You have to love the car drivers that get irate with the overtaking driver, its not my fault its the driver who doesnt ease off thats making it take so long.
last week on the a66 i caught up with one of malcom transport trucks. i made my move to over take him. as i was half way past him so put his foot down and was keeping me in the outside lane. well i was ■■■■■■ over this.i was sitting in the outside lane and i spotted the sign "duel carriageway ends in 2 mile"i was thinking that now he would back off, but he didnt. i seen red and and put my indicator on that i was moving in, still he didnt back off. now at this stage i knew someone had to back off or it would end in a crash.so the cowboy in me kicks in. i put the cab light on so he could see me, put my foot up on the dash and gave him the fingers as i started to move in on top of him. i just look ahead and smile. he stood on the brakes put i’m sure his cab hit my trailer and i’d be sure his pants was over loaded afterwards.
Its been in the highway code for years for the slower vehicle to slow down but how often does anyone read one after they pass.To many idiots drive for a living these day and some of them are the older drivers.Seems malcolms drivers are quite often like this it happened to me somewhere a couple of weeks ago.I just cut him up as i do with anyone that does it,serves them rite for doing it.

If I am left hanging and its not to do with a lane change to help someone join the Carriageway then I blame myself.
I don`t like other road users to think I am an ■■■■■■■■ so it gets on my ■■■■ when a Driver leaves me out there and turns it into an endurance test, I can either abandon the overtake or carry on but whichever I choose its my fault I am out there.
Depending on another drivers generosity shouldn`t be in my thinking, so for that reason I avoid giving him a fright with my back end and carry on as normal. lol
