Slow news day in Wigan?

A kind-hearted lorry driver came to the rescue of a brood of adorable ducklings about to take their lives in their wings crossing a busy borough main road with their mum.

Jean Hensey-Reynard was horrified to see the female bird trying to lead her 11 youngsters through the heavy traffic on Bolton Road in Ashton.

Fortunately, though, the kind HGV driver slammed on his brakes before getting out of the cab to ensure all the animals were safely off the road.

You got it all wrong pal. Its not a slow day. This is BIG news in Wigan.

I like stories like that. I’m no raving vegan or anything but I think that it’s nice to be nice, especially to animals. There’s a village I travel through near here in my car regularly and on numerous occasions I’ve stopped to let ducks and geese cross between two fields and it always brings a smile to my face when I see them. I passed a while back and it was like a scene from a Tarantino movie! I can’t believe that it was anything other than malicious and deliberate actions from the driver who ran the lot over.

To say I’d have quite happily pushed a screwdriver through his/her eye and out of the back of their head is an understatement. :imp:

Since when is Ashton in Wigan ■■

The “Wigan Today” website seems to think it’s in Wigan, as does Wikipedia, and who am I to argue with them?

I remember reading about a sort of social experiment done in the US or Canada about roadkill using dummy creatures, I think just under half actively tried to run them over.

Not a day goes by where I don’t hate people more.

Why did the driver “slam on his brakes”? Couldn’t he just have stopped?

I once ran over and killed a mother duck leading it’s young, unavoidable felt really bloody bad about it for rest of day…seriously…
Just the way I am,.a big softie at heart.

Next interesting anecdote to follow.

I’ll do my best rob

Last year M62 rush hour, three lanes of traffic at a halt as several people stopped to help a woman in a n 18 tonner round up a mother duck and her brood from the inside lane. I can report all were captured and shoved into a large cardboard box and driven off by said lady. Hopefully to a pond far from a motorway.

Why get in the way of Darwinism, though? Look where tampering with natural selection got us as a species…
