I was told its because the drivers now have to pay for their own fuel, and claim it back when returning to the depot
. A bit like the brits when quoting for a load from A to B would always use the favourite AA road book, and a piece of string for accurate mileage, when they were always 50 miles under quote

I’ve been told that they get money taken out of their wages if they use more fuel than they are ‘supposed to’ on their runs. So they drive slowly.
Noone can take money of your wage for that. BUT In some Polish companies I know driver get bonuses for economical driving. And unlike the bonuses discussed here some time ago they are worth the hassle.
With reference to blind side side swiping, the ferry firms in Dover used to give out those plastic convex mirrors that you put in the passenger window.I have a few at home.

A lot of these ex commy block countries MOTs are a joke i know for a fact in 1 Country they just go to the local garage that does MOTs and collect a new document the vehicle never sees the garage,as with my car when i lived in this country i would go to garage and this is not a wind up they would walk around the car i am certain they counted the wheels then put your headlights on check them but not the rear and that was it passed and this Country is EU,
But as you know these Eastern Block boys are mostly mechanics they have to be to keep some of the motors running .
Ech, new myth now? It’s getting boring.
I can’t say for all of the countries but I got a fresh-from-MOT van today and I can assure you it would not pass it in Poland…
Also: Eastern European hauliers are usually poorer than British, so they cannot afford breakdowns and as the old saying says “the hole should be patched when it’s still small”. Also: British company knows that they will get new one every X years. This is not the case for most of small EE companies, so they have to respect the vehicles they have.
And if you still thinks otherwise, I have a little challenge for you.
This is the 58 plate van I had “pleasure” to drive yesterday. Please find me a pic of 3 years old Eastern European vehicle in similar condition. THEN we can speak about maintenance standards here and there.

More fool you for driving it
It’s only rusty ffs…Why wouldn’t he drive it?
Every merc van rusts in my experience.

I refuse to drive vans that I consider unsafe (and I am the only one in our place who does it - just another interesting facts about “British driving standards”. Have to say I am not the boss fav for that, but since I seem to be also the only one who cares, they still haven’t sacked me )
The one with brakes issue came back to the garage.
This one from the picture is OK to drive despite it’s look. You can feel it’s mileageage (over 400 000 miles on the clock) but it drives well, stops when needed, turns where I want it and all lights etc are in working order. I refused to drive it in the past, but the problems that caused it have been fixed since. I am not bothered by it’s look - it’s not mine and it is not my opinion that be based on it. And since I am paid more for driving this than to drive truck - where is the problem?

That’s true, but if you take proper care of it, you can drive it for years. Which is true for vans of every make.

More than likely they have the mganet on and havent pulled the ABS fuse therefor restricting there revs/speed to silly speeds of 45-50mph. Next time you shoot by one slow down, stop and tell them to pull there ABS fuse and theyll rocket like hell, then next week we can all come back on complaining Why The Hell Are All The Foreigners Doing 70mph?

some are taking this fuel saving malarky to extremes. one polish bloke drove on the wrong side of the motorway to save fuel. another got wedged in a bath to save fuel. but that may have been, he got wedged in bath. but that’s not important. the important thing is, he was foreign, so he must be inferior to us british.
the best way anyone can save money, is by not coming to england.
So lets close borders - both ways
