Slip road maniacs

Had a close shave today on the a50 near stoke.

Im doing 50ish and ive got two cars down my offside and another wagon behind, this renault megane appears quickly at the of this short slip road expecting me to move over for him - i cant go anywhere and the result is his bumper missed my side guard rail by less than a foot. No doubt i got hurled a load of abuse.

This isnt the first time ive seen this happen. Im half tempted to suggest that we need physical give way signs at the end of all slip roads because so many seem to think it works the other way.

Crack on driver don’t give way, if you give way once they will expect it every time. Avoid an accident if at all possible (don’t put anyone else at risk) but licence holders sometimes have to learn the hard way.

what he said above.

Same old same old. But if they put a give way sign at the end of a slip road, all the knob heads will start stopping and wanting to join the carriage way from a standstill. A better idea would to have advisory signs like “motorway traffic has priority” or something like that as your coming down the slip road.

What time was this Rob, I think I was the truck next to you when it happened. A dark blue Actros with a blue trailer about half 7 ish I think I was there + / -, saw a very similar thing happen, don’t remember the car or the other truck, just thinkin’ “muppet”

If the knob heads understand road marking it shows give way has you come on to the main drag

On every slip road in the country, there are signs indicating that those already on the Road/motorway have priority, and those wanting to join must give way

its even written in the highway code, so crack drive, and if the fools crash into you, they loose

Used to make the effort to pull over if possible, maybe slow down, not any more, they have to give way by law, I see near miss incidents all the time, one young lady looked at me horrified and continued up the hard shoulder :unamused: .Maybe motorway driving should be part of the test ? Maybe mandatory training pre test ?

The use of traffic lights to control the flow at some junctions causes severe problems, they just don’t get enough run up to join the motorway at a safe speed. It highlights that the driver coming on to the motoway has to make the adjustment, it is give way afterall.

I agree with the others, the A50 at Stoke seems to be infested with timid drivers…

I’ve seen motorists squeal to a halt at the end of the slip road even when there was enough room to join the carriageway.

Is the correct answer.

That car driver was a plonker!
But sometimes I do have sympathy with vehicles trying to join a busy motorway at some junctions, try joining the M25 from the A13 slip heading for the QE2 Bridge when there is a 5 mile queue of trucks bunched up tight on the M25 who have no intention of letting anyone in!
I have been caught there many times when I worked at Tilbury. Odd thing is they would always let me in when I was driving a truck, but rarely when I was in the car.

Had this argument with the "TM " at a previous job. He took the side of the idiot woman that ring in to complain. Now I NEVER yield.

It was mid afternoon fella, not surprising to hear that others are finding this so common as well.

In instances like this i would have moved over if i could purely to avoid a possible accident, they might be clueless drivers but i dont want them under my wagon. But normally like a lot of others here i stay put, mainly because im sick to death of getting stuck in lane 2 as the gormless muppet that has just merged plods along at 50/55 down your side. Even had other truck drivers do this to me which really puts me in a grump.

Yep, see it every mutha ■■■■■■■ day.
I used to try and move over for em or slow down, not any more. If they wana try to drive under my side bars, they can crack on!

Aot of people don’t look to see if they can safely get on to the motorway until they are just about to cross the lines, then panic sets in when they realise there’s no space for them, then they try and force themselves into a space that isn’t there.

I’ve taken the “I’m not moving over or slowing down” attitude lately, as it’s getting beyond a joke, as has already been said, some people need to learn the rules and regs the hard way

+1

I never move over, even if there’s room. Far too many reasons not to go compared to far too few reasons to help out someone in a car who can have any gap they want, forward or aft.

You have right of way, they have 2 choices get pally with some wheel nuts or drive up the hard shoulder.

Same muppets who come up the slip road doing about 50mph, once they’ve succeeded in causing mayhem, they put their foot down and shot up to 70/80/90… so if they kept increasing their speed on the slip road etc, they wouldnt have caused any issues

There is a sign at the end of the slip road. Its a painted line that means give way. The deffenition (spelt wrong) of give way is something like, vehicles crossing the give way line must yeald to the traffic already on the road they are joining.

Most drivers, including HGV’s, EXPECT you to move over and let them join and when I can, I do. But if I’ve got vehicles on the outside of me I’m not slowing down just to let them join. If they can’t ‘read’ the road and judge the gaps right then they will spend time driving down the hard shoulder.
