Sliding skelly

To all you doubters out there :unamused: i dont give a โ– โ– โ– โ–  what you are saying about whats legal or not about sliding trailers as i know i am safe and legal when i am using a slider  its obvious to me that there is a lot of people out there that are puting people at risk as they seem to lack common sense :unamused: no offence btw

So in actual fact you have no evidence to back up your claims and youโ€™re just making it all up as go along.

I dont know what book you have been reading rob k  But i would ask for your money back  as for evidence i dont need to prove anything because i pull sliding trailers all the time and if you think i am making it up as i go along then you are a bigger prat than i took you for in the 1st place  no offence intended old chap :unamused:

You should change your name to Mrscaremongering.

Nitpicking Mode

As far as i know it is illigal to run with the skel closed up with a box on.

And i can say for sure that if you drive with the trailer in the wrong position for the box that you have on depending on the make and spec of trailer, then you can get pulled by vosa and if you are involved in a rta and your trailer is set wrong you will be in trouble with the law and vosa.

Let us look at the evidence so far. I have copied many parts out of the VOSA operators manual, of the enforcement sanctions and of the type approval documents. No mention of any offence committed yet. So now lets look back at page one at the question;

Can I run a sliding skelly in the closed up position with a box on?

At the bottom of page one there is a diagram from one particular so far unidentified make of sliding semi trailer.

Warning. Do not run trailer in closed position and Do not carry liquid tank containers :exclamation:

No mention of illegal there, and by mentioning liquid tank containers. I presume they mean full ones, not empty.

The bit I find could incur the wrath of VOSA is the next bit: 1 x 20โ€™ Container Running Position.trailer in blue 20โ€™ locking position 25000kg Max. That could come under design weights or type approval.

Yet we have seen that stone carried in a 20โ€™ box still weighed 27 tonne when transhipped out of the 2200kg box.

As I have said all along, I agree with you, but for different reasons. It isnโ€™t illegal providing axle weights are not exceeded, and pure common sense says that you would not travel down the road with a 6metre 29tonne box on the back pins of a 40โ€™ skelly. A sliding skelly is no different.

  Sorry WN. Probably should have posted its a Montracon

We are indeed able to carry empty tanks but not loaded.
Same way we can get a tug from VOSA asking for all paperwork regarding ADR even thou its empty

We all seem to have different views of the correct way of operating a sliding trailer :unamused: i also use a splitter trailer sometimes  but i wont overtax peoples brains explaining about them   one thing is obvious and that is most trailers have intructions including pics of the right and wrong ways of using that trailer  and as for upsetting the brake senses and the abs and suspension just ask a trailer fitter they may or may not explain in detail

I remember mixer man recently asked your opinion on his brakes, you didnโ€™t seem very clear how they worked, quite alarming to say how much experience you have :stuck_out_tongue:

Manufacturers recommendation plates are just that, not the law. So long as the set up doesnโ€™t break any c and u rules, or laws such as axle loadings itโ€™s fine. As MikeC pointed out about the starting gear sticker in his and most lorries. By your logic, if I got stopped by VOSA and then tried to pull away from the checkpoint in 3rd lo they would chase me down and fine me for ignoring the manufacturers written instruction in the cab :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I did mention about the diaphram in the brake chamber though  but you are right i did misread the bit about it being brake drums instead of discs  and i have noticed that people on here dont like it when someone is right about something  but im not going to apologise for being right this time and if it upsets you all then its your problem not mine

Using different gears for starting off is not exactly the same danger as having your trailer set correctly  And if we all ignored the danger and warnings we would all be in trouble  they are there for a good reason

Donโ€™t give them ideas. :open_mouth:

Me give them ideas  I think i will have to agree to disagree  do you know any jokes? I need a laugh
