Sleeping with a fridge

GO AND SEE YOUR GP, sleeping with a fridge is worrying!

No, sleeping with a fridge is no problem; however I married one. Now that is a problem.

Never pulled a fridge. When I was parked up at South Mimms just after I started doing tramping I was so lucky to encounter two fridges coming along to park on each side of me ! :open_mouth: Tell you one thing, I was a bit surprised by how tactful this was done by the drivers as it was during day time in the weekend and we were probably only about 5 trucks parked up there, so they’d have had about an acre to find another space to park. Anyway, there was no need to worry as I soon found the sound reminded me about sleeping on the ferry. And as that’s always associated with good memories I soon fell asleep.

But the sound of a ticking clock !!! That spins me right out  :open_mouth:

Not a fridge, but a generator.

I only wake up when it stops.

I can cope with a fridge in a lorry park, if they park near me, the worst thing is the warning buzzer before they start, its better if they run all night rather than stop start

The trick to sleeping with a fridge is to have it on constant running. Its the stopping and starting that wakes you up. Either that or drop it and park the unit at the opposite end of the lorry park.

Sleeping on the ferry… good memories?

I saw the title of this thread and thought,Hello!,this looks interesting, could be something with a perverse undertone.

Should have known better.

Anyway,here’s my two-penneth.

Drove with a fridge for many year’s and you soon get used to the motor running behind the cab,in fact if it doesn’t start up for a while you start to get paranoid.
Is it ok?Has some bugger switched it off?Is the battery flat?Has it run out of diesel? How long will it take for all that ice-cream to start running out the back?Should I start eating it?
Then off it goes again and all is calm and I drop off back into the land of slumber.Aaah!
Though I have to say,it’s easier to sleep with it running continuous rather than stop-start.

Mind you,I have been parked up in some truckstops away from everyone else, and you do often get some plonker park next to you who then say’s “I hope you ai’nt 'aving that [zb] fridge running all night”!
Yes,in fact I am,and I was parked here first,so go and find another spot, after all,the place is almost empty and this area is reserved for fridge’s!

Pah! some people!

CM:
No problem! once I’m asleep you could dismantle the truck around me, I would’nt hear you. :unamused:  :sunglasses:

Thats what I like to hear, nice to know ya not letting ya fellow night drivers down Charles!!! Back on nights for me next week, so might see ya Friday

I love fridges  .

Best nights sleep can be had with a Carrier clattering away on full tilt with a frozen load at -20. Bliss.

Like others have said, KW especially, you do get paranoid when it switches itself off and lies dormant for what seems like far too long when you’ve got frozen on.

I only made the mistake of leaving it on auto overnight once. When it switches itself off at 2am you wake up to people whispering to each other half a mile away but yet can sleep perfectly with 50dB of din 5ft above your ears  .

Exactly. If I could I switched off last thing before bed then on at first pee. Of course you can’t do that with frozen. Next best, find a quiet spot, drop the trailer, and park behind the back doors. Peace.

Salut, David.

Oh nothing too ■■■■■ I’m affraid. But months of travelling the north of Norway and Sweden in the van. Freedom, mountains, glaciers, sea birds, freshly cooked cod with melted butter and blue berries, time and no worries.
