Sleeping for night work

Managed to find myself in a new job with another agency working for Allied Bakers however the job starts at 01:30 in the morning. Anyone got any tips on adjusting your sleeping pattern for start times like this?

I tried & failed miserably, never again.

Some at our place stop up as long as possible and go to bed at tea time when the kids are out playing, some go to bed when they get in ,get up at tea time then watch tv and get ready for work, its whats suits your lifestyle, they all look like pasty zombies and are really moody…not for me im afraid :frowning: :frowning: moneys bang on though

Impossible to set a sleep pattern for a start at that daft time of the morning. You need to be finishing no later than 6am or starting no earlier than 4am in order to stand a decent chance of getting anything like a workable sleep pattern.

Straight to bed when you get home, did this for years and didn`t have a problem. :sunglasses:

I quit a job with what had been a good agency with guaranteed hours because they kept giving me 2am starts. Up at 0100; back home at 14, 1500; bed at 1700; what kind of life is that?

Pretty much this. 5 years of doing it now. Infact I’m out at 1am tonight.

Go to bed at tea time. Get up around 10pm. :sunglasses:

Personal suggestion in to bed when you finish, get up when you feel like it and then grab an hour or 2 before you start.

Night work affects the bodys digestion system.I would be having a fry up before starting work at night.
Kalms natural remedy pills help calm the nerves and relax the mind.
Boots sell them.Made from dried lettuce.
If you can not sleep in the day, just close the eyes and lay still on the bed.
Take the door bell battery out.Foam ear plugs for barking dogs and lawn mowers.
The advantage is you can sort Doctors appointments in the day time.Do some shopping.Have a coffee in town.
Night workers are entitled to regular free medical checks.
Beware the nodding dog at night and hallucinating while falling asleep at the wheel.
You imagine dark shapes and phantom beasts that run out in the road.
Some drivers have anchored up the brakes seeing ghostly things.

Depends how long your shifts are.

If your to have any sort of work-life balance working nights then you can’t really be doing more than 9-10 hours a night in my opinion which I doubt the OP will be for Allied doing bread deliveries. If your home from a 1am start before midday and are able to get pretty much straight to bed then it’s workable, as your then up & about in the evening able to socialise & see your family.

I do think 1am starts are a bit barmy though, I prefer late evening starts.

Personally i couldn’t do it my body clock would not cope with it , could luck with it fella

Nights … No way
Im like the proverbial cinderella, I swear if I’m in my carrage at midnight, it will turn into a pumpkin …

This is what works best for me, I’ve got a primary school to one side, until last week had a doctors surgery to the other and a main street with a roundabout right outside the front door, so getting enough sleep is been a real pain. Also helps if you can grab 20mins on your brake &or waiting for your backload. Mostly its about getting into and maintaining a pattern which is nearly impossible on agency.

A ■■■■ one.

I wouldn’t treat it as night work I’d go to bed at 7 ish and get up at 1am…
I think I could cope with this shift pattern it’s the 6pm starts then working till 7-8am next morning that kill me…

Start times like that are usually what the regular drivers don`t want, commonly called “dog shift” or “grave yard shift” and openly available until you are made permanant

Well its just nightshift although you start ermm in the night.
Best way by far would be to do your shift then head straight to bed once you come in and get up mid afternoon.

You’ll never settle if you go to bed at tea time plus you’ll be more tired after your shift anyway so have a better chance of sleeping doing it that way round.
