Speaking from experience ?

I’d love to say no but I hold my hands up! Find another way.

Working on it Couple of interviews this week

Some can, some can’t - just how it is.

I was ‘lucky’ - when on nights I used to go to bed in the morning (kippered), and sleep my fill. Never set my alarm clock unless I had to. Used to find I was better rested sleeping my fill through the day than when on day shift, which involved getting to bed when you can and then having to get up early.

tYPE of work,I was on shop deliveries for a while, and really struggled, didn’t seem too have a minute to spare through the shift, been back on chilled 99% of the time lately and feel so much better!getting 2/3/5 hrs kip through the shift, getting plenty of time in bunk at collections, rdc waiting rooms etc.
Then if you only get 5/6 hrs when your home ( + 3/4/5 hrs kip through shift) you’ll be ok,stick a grievance in,it worked for me :exclamation: :exclamation:

Getting less resilient nowadays, but had absolutely no problem with varying shift patterns when I was younger. Then again, I was one of those freaks who could grab a power nap while running to catch a bus. As said - horses for courses.

i dont know how people sleep through the day with the amount of phone calls and people call calling nowadays sellin crap,it does your head in ,people say ear plugs work then how you supposed to know when to get up

It’s the first day back sunday/monday that always gets me. Had 2 hours sleep last night despite going to bed 6 hours before I was due to start. It only seems to take a friday and saturday night of staying up late to reset my body clock which means im shagged when I start my shift sunday/monday. Usually ok by wednessday then its nearly the weekend and it all starts again.

Summer is the worst because it stays light later and its often too hot to sleep with the window closed so i get all the noise as well when trying to sleep.

Been doing it 3 years now and its starting to take its toll.

Agree with the above really, I’m on a shift pattern which involves a mixture of shifts, done it for a few years and can personally say that you never really get used to it, I sometimes get long periods of constant nightshift etc which I find a little better than changing between shifts as you do get used to it a bit more. The weekends are a pain due to trying to get back into dayshift mode! The pro’s I suppose are that it gives me more days off/time to get stuff done that I wouldn’t if constant dayshift. Overall though wouldn’t recommend shifts.

Ive done it just over a year now & ive had enough when I came home from work when I worked days no problem doing stuff at night out on my bike for a cycle or watch tv for a few hours but when I finish nightshift cant keep my eyes open when I get home its not longer hours and if anything easier work

Unplug the phone?

Just get up when you wake up? Don’t need an alarm etc

Ear plugs just muffle sounds, you will still hear an alarm. And if you don’t? You can download free alarm apps that make the screen flash brightly which should wake you up. Or give you a fit.

I don’t know how people do a week of nights & then a week of days & repeat, now that would F you up.

I seem to cope quite well with it. In fact, one of the best things about nightshifts is the ability to stay up late on Sunday nights drinking malt whisky and watching motorsports on the computer (in season). I tend to get up around 1pm every Monday, and even then my other half (who works at home) has to wake me up repeatedly.
People are either morning people or evening people. My idea of hell would be to go back to getting up at 5 or 6 am and doing a day job.
