SL Robinson of Cheadle Hulme

Syd Robinson was my Dad. I can remember his Commander low loader and his Thames Trader muck waggons but little else. If anyone has any info or pictures about other waggons or his Firm that would be great.

Hi,

I worked for SL Robinsons with Fred on the Scammell Contractor and Matilda and also in the Stores, early 70’s,before going over to John Jones as their LL driver, remember ■■■■ Gunson?

There is a picture on here showing an ERF and LL trailer of Robinsons somewhere, also one from Pat Moores, one of Syd’s competitors!

No pictures of my own though…sorry

Take it easy

David

Thanks David. I rode with Fred quite a few times and ■■■■’s name rings a bell. Did you work for JJ for very long? I worked for Balfour Beatty for 30 yrs and came into contact with Stan J and Kevin Gibbons quite a lot.

Hi Mark,

Yes I remember Kevin Gibbons, used to live in Sandbach IIRC,he was Contracts Manager,I also remember Stan,he had a pale blue Jag,lived In Marple IIRC!

I was trying to remember a few SLR names,John Moss,welder from Newcastle?,Big Al,Foreman,Ray on the 2nd L/Lowder,and Diddie David?

SLR bought a batch of ex Army Matadors,I think they were, fully stripped them down in the workshop and converted them to AEC cabbed 6 wheeled tippers…good days they were!

Take care and regards,

David
