You’ll also need a waste carrier licence from the Environment Agency.
Yes you missed something very big, the cost of dumping. where would you dump your waste? and for how much per ton, and you would need to sort your waste, unless your doing to transfer station with it where they will sort it and recycle what they can,… no point in going to a land fill at 80 pounds per ton if skip contains recyclables ,or if it contains rubbish that can be dumped else where cheaper, like timber 20 per ton to get rid of,like steel, you get 50-100 for that, like rubble, can dump that per skip for 20-50,
there is a lot to think about with skips,
you need lots of room and do you really want to be knee high in rubbish every day sorting skips, its not easy, and your place will be very messy very quick,
if you have a transfer station who will take skips off of you at a set price then you way better off, like if you can hire skip for 200. and get it tipped for 70 then easy to see profit margin, and you avoid all the sorting and the headaches that go with it,
Hi Kane
Nice to see someone with ambition is such bad times. Ok to start with if you wan a CPC holder you need to make a choice. You may get one for £25 per week however you can’t guarrentee that he/she is keeping up with regulation as this takes time and effort and for £25 per week they just won’t put that effort in plus they need to be actively revising the keep their knowledge fresh. You will look more like £400 per month for a CPC holder who will advise and guide you and not just leave you to get on with it. A good CPC holder with come visit you and check records and vehicles after all if you get done so do they.
Take heed of argosys’ advice with recycling as you want to be making money from waste not paying to get shot of it. Plus if you are going to be doing alot of garden waste/soil you may want to take into account a screener as top soil has a good value to the landscape gardening business especially if you can bag it into IBC’s and deliver it.
Have you taken into account drivers wages? remember a driver won’t wait for your cash to start flowing as he will have bills that need paying so he will want paying when its due.
Vehicle fees and o licence fees which vary depending on size of vehicle but can cost up £1000 to get the licence and cover the fees.
You also need to prove financial standing also six grand for first vehicle and 3 grand for each vehicle after that, this money needs to be available to you three months prior to applying for o licence.
You are also going to need to carry out inspections at regular intervals which requires you to use a qualified machanic which will also cost but I use a self employed mechanic who charges £25 and never takes more than an hour to do the inspection so keep that in mind, the large companies will charge you a fortune.
being legal is very important because the traffic commisioner will not think twice about curtailing restricting or terminating your o licence if you fail to comply, then you will have all that equipment and no way of working it.
I know there is a lot to take in but don’t let it put you off, don’t look at how much needs to be done just look at what needs to be done next. A good transport manager will guide you through most of this and do most of the legal work for you, if not at least talk you through it step by step.
Best Regards
PM me if I can help further, I am a CPC holder national and international and would be more than willing to give you advice
i just want to see a picture of a £60,000 skip lorry
magnetic signs, and fake reg plates.
or you’ll get caught when fly tipping.
