skelly repair

my skelly has now got quite a bit of play in it due to 4 of the blocks where the pins comes through the chassis been worn has anyone had these replaced if so are the blocks a stock item or something you have to get made just after an idea of costs involved its only 4 blocks 2 on either side of 1 part of the chassis and 2 on the other part of chassis for when the pins are in place for moving a loaded 20 ft its an older 12 twist lock 3 position sdc trailer my garage have tried sdc but cant get anywhere with them

would it be easier to weld then grind them down to the right size again?

either way they would have to split the trailer its on the inside of both the blocks where its worn would be a lot of welding to make the holes smaller

ring my mate chris at weightmaster trailers, he is based in Scunthorpe , they build trailers from scratch, do full refurbs or just mend them, his hourly rate is £35 pound per hour and the job you will get is top notch. you’ll have to google them for now as I don’t have the my phone to hand… i’ll add the number when I get off the loo lol! :open_mouth:

in the past ive had new plates made up by fabrication company in durham, i have also welded chocks in to take up the play, the later was in my opinion was the easiest & better repair.

I’m not really sure about how big the pins and plates are but I would guess around the 40 or 50 mm diameter?

In our place we very often have line boring done on the dumper hinge pins, which I believe involves a special machine welding back to size and then reamed out to the correct fit…

Finnings (Caterpillar agents) are the guys that come in to us but I’m sure that a quick search on Tinterweb will reap results

The other option may be to ream out and bush it perhaps?
