Whats wrong with having a passion for the job?? To be honest if i had my own trucks i would take a chance with newbe driver no probs as i was giving the same chance many years ago and i havnt looked back.

and yes i can agree that the whole point of these forums are to help people or have a good crack with folk and not slag eachother off (although a little playful banter is fine

After reading these last few comments in bewilderment (surely we all started somewhere) i feel that although the original subject has rather been forgotten i just had to make this final comment.
I understand fully what you are saying, a drivers lot is not a great one but a vast majority of small hauliers do try and work together with drivers to make everyone feel apprieciated, i have a driver working with me since i started and although he is,nt earning vast wages little things make him happy, a van home, a loan of money if he wants it, a sim card for his wife to give them free calls, the option to ācash inā hols if his wife wants a new dish washer, a micro wave, breakfast if we meet on the road (although i do try and hide in the toilet if i can!).
I mistakenly spoke early on in this thread about wages and got blasted by return post, i am fully aware that you can earn 700 a week driving an all singing an dancing topline BUT i also know from experience that its hard earned dosh, these drivers stick it for a while then bragg about it in lymm for the next 20 years, i sure youve seen/heard them in bordeuax full of wine on a saturday night recalling all the storys that have somehow become there own. My policy is the plod along, try and keep good drivers happy a make a few quid along the way, Good luck to allā¦LRM

The only blast you got about the money you mentioned stopped when it was established the rate you wanted to pay was ātake homeā. Personally I would be happy with that but happier with another Ā£50 when weekended and wouldnāt expect overtime for bank holidays or anything else.
Nothing wrong with having a bottle of wine in Bordeaux on a Saturday night and letting off steam. No driving on Sunday, unless your on a fridge, so thereās plenty of time to get it out of your system.

doesnt sound bad at all to me if its take home sure another Ā£50 sounds ok and im sure the six week away would depend on where you live because if you tip near home you could be weekended at home maybe? only thing i dont understand is what is meant by live in van?
