Six day working and weekly rests question

I’ve a chance of a temp job, which grateful for as newly passed, so I asked for rough hours as I need to fit round seeing kids.

They said its Mon-fri 0800-1800, give and take might finish at 5 or 7 so fine with that as still plenty of time to get daily rest in.

It’s the sat bit that I don’t think I can do.

They want Sat 0800-1400. Every week !

I don’t think I can as wont get the 45 hours weekly rest every week.

I can see doing it alternate as can have reduced 24 in between full 45s but I’m saying it’s illegal to do every Sat at those hours.

The TM says I can but then they would !

Am I right or is he?

There is no flex on the 0800 start either so no option to start later on Monday

looking at that you will only get 42 weekly

From 14:00 Saturday to 08:00 Monday is only 42 hours, so assuming the job is on EU regulations it cannot legally be done every week.

That what I was thinking . But I am ok to do alternate sats and take a reduced 24 that week?

Assuming you mean a reduced weekly rest period of about 42 hours on alternative weekends, that would be no problem, the compensation would be paid back during the following week.

Many seem to say that a reduced weekly rest is 24 hours and not something between 24 and 45 hours - why is that?

In this case it was just a figure of speech. I realise if less than 45 it’s a reduced so as tachograph said I would repay the 3 hours during the week tagged onto a daily. Personally don’t want to work every sat as that’s the day I get to see kids.

I think it’s just an easy way to express what’s meant, like people call a reduced daily rest period a 9 or as often as not a 15, or an extended driving day a 10.

As above I tend to refer to the specific hours but only because I’m a bit pedantic and like to reduce the possibility of confusion

Ta both
