Only joking!

I’m sat twiddling my thumbs and I was wondering, how do you actually line up the filth wheel and pin when you drop the suspension?

I just line the mudguards up with the trailer. Seems to work for me

Simples!

I like things simple.lol

Best if you can reverse unit directly onto the front of the trailer so you can use both side mirrors to centre it

You then lower unit suspension and put the plate just under the front of the trailer

Then raise unit suspension so it lifts the trailer

Now reverse until the pin clicks in

Do you raise the suspension all the way or just enough to lift the trailor?

Well i lift it enough to lift the landings legs of the ground.Again makes things simple when winding the legs up

Please your self but I usually lifted it all the way unless it made the trailer tilt back too much

I find the mirrors misleading, I hang out of the cab to see the alignment of the mudguards with the trailer edge in the ‘real world’. The mirrors seem to distort the lines so I sometimes miss.

Remember to check the trailer brake before lifting…

I’ve always done this too and it saves the potential of damaging the legs with an over zealous tug test.

So…

make sure trailer brake is on
lean out of window and line up unit to trailer using mudguards
drop suspension
reverse back so 5th wheel is just under the trailer
raise suspension so legs lift slightly off the ground
then reverse all way until pin is engaged
tug test
raise legs fully
disengage trailer brake

the filth wheel

Don’t know what a filth wheel is, but maybe Santa will bring me one for Christmas?!?

Pete

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

If you are new, reverse under the trailer, raise the suspension then get out and look to make sure the fifth wheel is in contact with the underside of the trailer

A few extras to think about…

make sure trailer brake is on
lean out of window and line up unit to trailer using mudguards
drop suspension
reverse back so 5th wheel is just under the trailer
raise suspension so legs lift slightly off the ground
then reverse all way until pin is engaged
tug test (two tugs)
take a torch underneath and check bar is across the pin
attach your kingpin clip
attach your airlines etc
remember your numberplate
raise legs fully
disengage trailer brake
[/quote]

What ORC says ( especially shining a torch to check the bar is across the pin )

thanks peeps

Could this be a double entendre?[WINKING FACE]

Line it up on your mirrors mate. Leaning out of the window is alright as long as it isn’t raining!
