So this guy started with us a couple of weeks ago.
In the second week the Boss sends him up North. Unfortunately, for reasons which I won’t go into, he ended up having to go Lairg, Altnaharra and up the B836 to Tongue, then across to Bettyhill before coming back down through Kinbrace and back to the depot from there; a nice big – and easy – circle for the day.
Once in the yard he drops the trailer and parks up then walks into the office and says (essentially), “ZB driving on roads like them for a living. I’m off.” He was, according to witnesses, both white and shaking.
Now this is a guy with 15 years experience in somewhere called ‘The Midlands’ (where-ever the hell that is!)…
Immigrant:
Wot shall i say as long i dont know about “The Reason you will not go into”!
Maybe just unfair treatment,as it often happens to new Staff.
Sigh. There’s always one has to think the worst!
It’s not a ‘normal’ run; get too many tourists and it could easily turn into a night out job. (Nearly as bad as getting into/out of Achiltibuie in July!).
Still doesn’t answer the original question though!
I had over a year running out of Dalcross for Nisa in an artic to Durness via Ullapool and across to Tongue and back down via the A836 would do it again in a heartbeat but could get a bit lairy during the winter months, Lovely scenery and far better than any filthy city ‘darn sarf’ but the tourists could be a bit of a pita.
Win-Stone:
Is the ‘skill set’ really THAT different?
Yes…to drive up there you need a skill set whereas to drive between Birmingham and leicester or similar you can likely get away without one, even for 15 years!
Suspect he never realised he’d even left the Birmingham area in all that time. Hope next job sends him to to lake district, cornwall or somewhere like that.
