Simple explanation of dcpc, please?

Can someone please give me a simple explanation of dcpc, done a search and it’s complex as everyone has so many questions, I’m a post 97 licence holder, have done my b+e and am looking to do my c, but not totally sure about the dcpc and what needs to be done, what are acquired rights ?

You have a post-1997 car licence, so have no acquired rights to DCPC.

If you pass a C1 or C test and want to drive LGVs commercially, you will need to pass LGV initial DCPC (module 2 theory and module 4 practical).

If you pass a D1 or D test and want to drive PCVs commercially, you will need to pass PCV initial DCPC (module 2 theory and module 4 practical).

Once you have initial DCPC, you will get a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) showing the expiry date of your DCPC entitlement(s) - they expire five years after being acquired. Before the expiry, you need to complete 35 hours of periodic training, which counts towards both LGV and PCV DCPC if you hold both.

Thanks , now it seems fairly straight forward
