Simonswood (Liverpool)

I am sitting my class 2 test at Simonswood very soon.

I have found a few tips on here to do with weight limits round the test centre etc.

Does anyone have a list of the routes? Anyone got any tips?

Any help much appriciated

Firstly, best of luck with your test. Test routes are no longer publicly available since the introduction of the independent drive. But don’t worry about it. Test route training has always been flawed as the examiner can vary the route at any point at will. Apart from that, you really should be able to drive for an hour without too much hassle if you’ve been trained to drive 9 and 10 hours a day once you’ve passed! But I accept that some knowledge of various points on test routes is a great advantage and, if you’ve got a good instructor, you will have seen the “trip up” points.

So far as weight limits near the test centre go, be careful. In some areas, the DSA have permission to ignore certain weight limits during driving tests. But also there is no trickology in the test. You will not be asked to turn into a road that has a weight limit. The instruction to listen for is “I’d like you to turn into the next available road on the left/right”. The operative word here is “available”. It pretty well tells you that next road to the left/right is not available eg weight limit. If you are given the normal instruction (as above but without “available”) you can be confident that you will be ok to take the turn. This assumes, of course, that there isn’t a large hole in the road or the aftermath of an RTC.

Can I just mention that I’ve never been to Simonswood but I have described the national proceedure to you.

So fear not. Go for it, concentrate and enjoy. Good luck again, Pete
