Only the Dutch would go through the time and expense to flip the dash and exchange the quarter panel to accommodate the revised locker door.

more likely to be the fact that this truck could be bought for a lot less than a new one!!!
There were 3 of these - here’s one running in the UK when nearly new.

There’s also a dutch commentary on the history of the truck by somebody who knows a bit about what happened to them - interesting when popped thru a google translator.
Here is what he says, comical dutch and Yoda-like grammar included:
Hello all
there were 3 of this Scania R580 `s
each with approximately 45,000 km
1 fleurs vd Eijkel
2 is sold to Belgium
3 has been scrapped for parts
They were originally Belgian trucks with the steering wheel right for an English company.
But because this company with Belgian plates, domestic transport in the UK did, the company has been fined a mega and all trucks produced in the chain. [*note: I think this means impounded]
only 4 trucks were at that time in England and have 2 years stopped.
hence they are new
I hope everyone as a response to his questions.
Another comment says that this is the other green & white one, not sure if that’s correct or not but could be.

finally, here is the steering wheel in all its glory:

yeah vabis steering wheels are very saught after items often being stolen and fetch a very high price think theyre like enamel coated aswell or some luxury snob like crap
I think it must be snob value for the thieves as i doubt if it is for nostalgia that they are stolen. Doubt if any of the thieves have ever driven a Vabis anyway.
